Rothe is seeking a Digital Imaging Administrative and Quality Control Specialist to work for NASA’s Imagery Acquisition Group by providing administrative and quality control photographic support on-site supporting the group with the daily workflows by planning, tracking, prioritizing, and providing quality control on multiple digitization projects and tasks to meet the goals of the department and other deadlines as required. This position is in support of the NASA Enterprise Multimedia and Integrated Technical Services (eMITS) contract. eMITS is the Agency’s enterprise-level contract creating and delivering multimedia and technical communications through the use of the internet, digital platforms, and IT management for NASA’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and Office of Communications (OCOMM). JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Ensures consistent use of quality control guidelines and established digitization standards, including file formats, image resolution, negative quality, file naming conventions, metadata standards, and more
- File uploading – performing quality control to ensure newly digitized negatives are scanned correctly with clear images and uploaded into Central Langley Image Collection (CLIC). CLIC is a digital asset management powered by MerlinX.
- Create and edit basic descriptive metadata.
- Physically examine / compare physical negatives to digital files.
- Support the maintenance of version control within the photo archives CLIC site.
- Collaborate with CLIC technical staff on image quality control / duplicate handling.
- Check metadata between two of the same image files.
- Compare resolution and file size.
- Verify files are loaded to CLIC.
- Review Admin QC report and retrieve negatives for digitization.
- Track status of negatives in process – Physical, Unscanned, Digitized, Missing, etc.
- Review, address, and track reports to verify negatives from each year are uploaded to CLIC, along with required metadata to meet NASA Standard NASA-STD-2822.
- Track progress of quality control checked images that include L-numbers from each year in sharable OneDrive document to allow real time checking, along with providing monthly reports.
- Assists in creation and updating of policies, procedures, guidelines, and best practices for digital production, quality control, and project management by providing critical analysis and evaluation of current practices.
- Follow and assist the implementation of Federal Agency Digital Guidelines Initiative (FADGI) for Technical Guidelines for Digitizing Cultural Heritage Materials.
- Assists in the proper disposition of physical negatives in accordance with directives set forth by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) by transferring physical negatives considered permanent records in accordance with NPR 1441.1 “NASA Records Retention Schedules” to NARA and ensuring all physical negatives considered to be temporary records are disposed of in accordance with Center policies and procedures.
EDUCATION:
- Must have a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in photography or related imaging field from an accredited University or Technical Institute, with 1 years of experience.
- Education should include use of computers for photographic applications, portraiture, creative photography, scientific photography. Knowledge and experience with DSLR cameras, accurate exposure/color reproduction, remote control systems, and flash lighting system.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain and/or maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
- Must have the ability to work in a team environment, communicate in a friendly and professional manner with NASA personnel, follow government protocol standards, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to physically lift and/or carry 50lbs. of equipment on a regular basis.
- Adherence to quality control, safety, operations, administrative and security procedures including reporting will be required.
- Experienced in organizing collections of information.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and customer service skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong knowledge of transmissive photographic media.
- Understanding of digital photo types, file formats and color correcting.
- Experience with CaptureOne software or previous scanning work preferred.
- Proficient with image processing workflows and software - Adobe Creative Suite, PhotoMechanics, Office365.
- Familiar with Windows and Mac operating systems.
- High attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and effectiveness in balancing multiple assignments and projects.
- Good oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently and part of a team.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule.

Salary : $44,518 - $50,000
