Rothe is seeking a Scanner Operator Intern to provide a broad range of multimedia and communication support to the NASA Enterprise Multimedia and Integrated Technical Services (eMITS) contract. eMITS is the Agency’s enterprise-level contract creating and delivering multimedia and technical communications through the use of the internet, digital platforms, and IT management for NASA’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and Office of Communications (OCOMM). From photographing rocket launches and recoveries, to producing engaging videos, to information technology management, to using social media to share NASA’s message, eMITS integrates services for NASA IT and provides NASA’s communication to the outside world. JOB DESCRIPTION:

Rothe is hiring a Scanner Operator Intern to support various information technology and data analysis requirements for NASA mission and institutional objectives. This internship will provide opportunities to support a broad range of information technology disciplines, including IT project and business management, information management, customer collaboration and event/meeting support, data analysis and visualization, enterprise architecture, configuration management, and forms/records management.

This internship opportunity is at Johnson Space Center (JSC) and will work on-site in Building 8, Room 290JSC.

Duties:

• Prepare internal and external documents for high-speed scanning (to include removal of fasteners, clips; repair tears to document).
• Determine appropriate scanner settings based on document type and document characteristics (i.e., paper size and weight of paper).
• Perform optical character recognition on documents requiring content-based retrieval, image indexing, and index verification ensuring files are searchable.
• Store image and text files within specified file structure; create/update properties to provide retrieval.
• Perform quality control of image, text, and properties to confirm loading, quality, and location of documents stored on servers.
• Convert scanned images to PDF or other file formats as required.
  
  
  

Onsite positions the intern bears travel costs to nearest NASA Center for badging and issue of NASA IT equipment.

EDUCATION:

For a College Summer Intern for three months NTE 480 hours:

Currently pursuing a BS/BA degree in computer science, information technology, business, or a related field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

Basic experience and understanding of information technologies such as IT service management platforms, network fundamentals, and database / database management tools.

SKILLS:

• Possess working knowledge of Windows/PC platform.
• Knowledge of MS Office.
• Ability to use Adobe Acrobat and its functions.
• Understand PDF file formats.
• Must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
• Must be extremely detail oriented.
• Ability to work with little supervision in a team environment.
• Must be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  
  
  

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneNote, One Drive), SharePoint, and Box.
