What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance/ Fireman- 2nd Shift position at Rowan College of South Jersey?
The Maintenance/Fireman performs various tasks involved in the operation and maintenance of boiler room heating and air conditioning equipment; routine maintenance of plant facilities and related assignments. This is a full-time position, typically working the evening shift from 2pm to 10pm.

- Operates and maintains boiler room logs and equipment for maximum efficiency.
- Operates air conditioning equipment effectively at established levels.
- Maintains Heating and Cooling Systems at required levels in all College buildings.
- Performs minor carpentry work and/or repairs to include, but not limited to doors, shelving, partitions, and cabinetry.
- Maintains plumbing systems in good repair such as flush valves, faucet washers, performs minor electrical work and/or repairs to include receptacles, plugs, switches, and lighting fixtures on 110/220 volt circuits. Work on voltage above this only done when knowledge and experience allows.
- Maintains equipment, gauges, dials at maximum performance levels and reports any irregularities to superior (s).
- Performs minor repairs throughout campus on equipment and assets as needed and maintains appropriate work records.
- Opens/Closes all College buildings in accordance with school schedule.
- Performs a variety of general tasks to include hanging pictures, bulletin boards, status boards, securing office equipment and moving furniture.
- Assists in supplementing basic custodial and groundkeeper tasks as required and approved by the direct supervisor, including snow removal during inclement weather.
- Performs minor repairs and/or small alteration jobs to maintain buildings and plant facilities in top condition.
- During construction projects staff will assist and be involved in these projects.
- Ability to diagnose electrical issues with an electrical meter and equipment.
- Knowledge of pumps to include centrifugal hot water system pumps and motors.
- Proficiency in computer software programs i.e., Microsoft Word and Excel Outlook.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED plus trades school experience.
- Three (3) years directly applicable work experience.
- Possession and maintenance of New Jersey Black Seal (low pressure boiler) license required or must obtain a license within six (6) months of date of hire.
- Previous professional electrical experience preferred.
- Possession and maintenance of valid motor vehicle operator's license.
- Must be able to work Monday through Friday, evening shift 4pm to 12am. Staffing of a shift other than Monday through Friday may be required.
