The Lower School faculty is composed of caring and knowledgeable teachers who are passionate about elementary education, skillful in creating a learning environment in which young students can thrive, and committed to continuous and collaborative professional growth. Lower School teachers, students, and families value the strong sense of community established in grades 1-5, and the unique learning experiences that the school provides each student, via the classroom curriculum, through our Specialties Program (Science, TREC, Art, Music, PE, Spanish, Library), and in our Ethical Education and Social-Emotional Learning Program.
Position Summary
The Lower School seeks an educator who will plan and implement curriculum for an elementary classroom and work effectively with the grade-level team and specialty teachers. In addition to teaching, this person will communicate regularly and proactively with students, their families, and colleagues, and contribute positively to the overall school culture while fulfilling duties as assigned (recess and lunch supervision, field trips, etc.) and serving on all-school or divisional committees as needed.
Skills and Requirements
Candidates should have experience teaching elementary-aged students and a B.A. in Education or a related field. Teacher certification is preferred, along with proficiency in Google Suite and iOS. Applicants should demonstrate collaboration, self-reflection, cultural competence, flexibility, and curiosity. They should have excellent interpersonal skills, a sense of humor, and a commitment to reflecting on their practices and continuously improve. Strong candidates will also show interest in engaging with the school community while advocating for students, supporting parents, and collaborating with faculty and staff. Below are primary responsibilities for this position:
- Plan, prepare, and implement curriculum, both as provided by the school and in collaboration with grade level teams and the Student Support Team
- Evaluate and effectively communicate student progress with students, families, and the Student Support Team
- Demonstrate knowledge of and a commitment to equitable and inclusive practices and behaviors, both in and outside of the classroom
- Communicate with families effectively and proactively, independently and in collaboration with the Student Support Team
- Co-create and sustain a positive learning environment for and with students
- Engage in ongoing professional development, including collaborative curricular review, and continued learning across a broad range of topics in support of the schools mission and strategic priorities, including on grade-level teams
- Other duties as assigned

Additional Information
This is a full-time exempt position, reporting to the Lower School Principal. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2025.
