Job Summary:
Seeking mature, responsible persons to assist with funeral visitations and services. Being able to dress professionally, good driving record, communicate well and stand for extended periods of time are necessary attributes of the position. The staff associates work closely together to assist the funeral director(s) in accomplishing a seamless service for our families. This position does not have guaranteed hours and will require vast flexibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with funeral services, visitations, and memorials, ensuring all arrangements are executed respectfully and professionally.
- Assist passengers in and out of limousines, with special emphasis and patience given to the elderly and individuals with mobility challenges.
- Assist the Funeral Director in the movement of casketed deceased and related paraphernalia in and out of the visitation area, funeral home chapel, church, or other places of service.
- Perform removals of deceased from hospitals, nursing homes, coroner offices, or residences and transport them to the funeral home.
- Drive the hearse, family limousine, or other vehicles in the funeral cortege and/or other funeral-related activities.
- Set up and retrieve chairs, tents, wreaths, and other funeral-related items at service locations.
- Take out and retrieve set-ups, wreaths, and care packages from client family homes and other locations as needed.
- Greet and receive client families and other visitors, maintaining a professional and compassionate demeanor at all times.
- Direct phone calls to appropriate team members and assist with inquiries from families and visitors.
- Maintain a friendly and professional attitude while offering assistance and guidance to all persons entering the funeral home.
- Ensure services run smoothly by assisting funeral directors with various tasks, including the identification process and handling of client family needs.
- Clean vehicles at the conclusion of services and provide vehicle updates regarding maintenance, cleanliness, and readiness for future use.
- Uphold strict confidentiality regarding client and business information.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a secure work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support funeral home operations.
Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items, including caskets, up to [insert weight requirement] lbs.
- Strong sense of professionalism, compassion, and discretion.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- You must be at a minimum of 2-3 weekends per month.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record preferred.
- Previous experience in a funeral home or customer service role is a plus but not required.
