Position Summary:
Supports, directs and implements the EHS programs for assigned locations. Ensures the facility maintains a safe, healthy, and compliant workplace by the execution of environmental, health and safety programs.
Your key responsibilities will include Minor Source Air and POTW Permit Management, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) Plan including LDAR, Hazardous Waste Management, Accident/Incident Investigations, EHS Training, Occupational Safety Procedures, Industrial Hygiene Monitoring, Agency Reporting and Interface, and overall EHS Compliance Management.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS programs, ensuring compliance with federal and state OSHA regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, hazard communication, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, confined space entry, pre-emergency planning, fire prevention, mobile equipment, lockout/tagout, site-specific health programs, PPE, machine guarding, blood borne pathogens, ergonomics, fall prevention, heat stress, incident investigation, industrial hygiene monitoring, etc.
- Teaching supervisors, managers and other leaders in assigned facilities about health and safety standards.
- Provides on-call (24 hr) response for safety, medical, and environmental emergencies and coordinates all facility emergency response and site evacuation programs, including the design and execution of annual drills and communication with management.
- Performs hazard assessments for manufacturing activities including the need for personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Conducts or coordinates training for compliance for health and safety programs including hazard communications, safe working practices, PPE and approves all PPE purchased to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Reviews new equipment, materials, and processes to assure employee safety.
- Provides support to assigned plants’ culture of continuous improvement. Able to lead and participate in Kaizen workshops to firmly insert EH&S thinking in all new standards and new procedures developed as a result of continuous improvement.
- Recommends improvements in policies, procedures and equipment to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Plans and coordinates industrial hiygiene testing (air sampling, noise level testing, etc.) to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations. Appropriately responds to onsite environmental inspections and inquiries from federal, state and local agencies.
- Evaluates workstations and conducts an Ergonomic program to better improve employee working conditions.
- Provides Compensation, Medical, and Drug and Alcohol Testing.
- Provides regulatory compliance assistance for Environmental programs and permits.
- Recommends direction on environmental, health and safety programs endorsed by other plant personnel.
- Provides and coordinates Job Safety Analysis for all procedures and maintains appropriate records of such.
- Endorses industrial engineering projects, maintenance projects, and all other plant prevention issues.
- Develops, implements, and supports facility EHS Teams in maintaining environmental programs meeting and/or exceeding local, state and federal EPA regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, air permitting, CRTK reporting, SPCC, storm water pollution prevention, waste management, etc.
- Develop and deliver advanced EHS training modules to assigned facilities. Verify proper recordkeeping at assigned facilities.
- Inspects facility processes to detect existing or potential environmental, safety, and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
- Coordinate completion of EHS internal assessments. Lead facility EHS Teams in developing corrective actions and monitor completion (EHS Teams).
- Poses no direct threat to the health or safety of himself/herself, of others, or to property, defined as a significant risk of substantial harm that cannot be eliminated or reduced to an acceptable level by reasonable accommodation.
- Requires regular attendance to perform essential elements as contained herein between the assigned start and end times for work.
- Performs such individual assignments as management may direct.
- Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the Corporation, and the community; and maintains the professional competence, knowledge, and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science – Safety, IH or related field of study
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in EH&S working in a manufacturing environment.
- Professional knowledge of federal standards (OSHA, EPA, DOT) for the manufacturing environment.
- GSP, ASP, CIH, CSP preferred but not required

- Energetic, motivated individual, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to interact with professionals at all levels.
- Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

- Strong communication skills, both written and oral.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Sitting at a workstation approximately 20% of workday.
- Standing/walking approximately 80% of workday.
- Must be able to travel >50% of work time.
- Ability to work overtime or occasionally on weekends with short notice.
- Normal office and manufacturing environments and travel by automobile and commercial transportation.
