The Sr. Buyer position is an integral part of the Purchasing Team that thrives in a high mix, short lead time environment. Candidate must have a strong background in purchasing and supply chain management and will work with facility-based buyers and across functions to meet company objectives.
Responsibilities include :
- Negotiate, or renegotiate, and administer contracts / agreements with suppliers, vendors, and other representatives.
- Analyze price proposals, financial reports, and other data and information to determine reasonable prices.
- Evaluate and monitor contract performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and to determine need for changes.
- Interview vendors and visit suppliers' plants and distribution centers to examine and learn about products, services and prices.
- Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and the supplier's reputation and history.
- Monitor changes affecting supply and demand, tracking market conditions, price trends, or futures markets
- Purchase the highest quality merchandise at the most competitive price and in required amounts.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field, 5-8 years' experience in purchasing and experience in company size of $50-200M. Certified CPM, CPSM, or working towards certification desired. Knowledge of the steel industry preferred. We utilize multiple commodities including steel, powder coatings, wood, solid surface, plastics, etc.
Requires good communication, negotiation, and mathematical skills; the ability to analyze technical data in suppliers’ proposals; knowledge of supply chain management; and the ability to perform financial analyses. High competency in utilizing Microsoft Office and MRP systems required.
