The Shop Technician plays a critical role in maintaining and repairing RPM’s fleet, equipment, and facilities. Building upon the foundational skills of the Junior Shop Technician, this role requires greater technical expertise and accountability. The Shop Technician ensures that all tools, vehicles, and equipment are in optimal working condition to support seamless daily operations. This position directly contributes to RPM’s operational efficiency and team success.
Key Responsibilities:
Advanced Equipment Maintenance and Repairs:
- Perform routine and advanced maintenance on vehicles, small tools, and landscaping equipment, including diagnostics and troubleshooting.
- Conduct repairs and replacements of components such as brakes, belts, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Lead preventative maintenance efforts to minimize downtime and improve equipment lifespan.
Facility Maintenance and Organization:
- Oversee the cleanliness, organization, and safety of the shop and yard areas.
- Monitor inventory levels of parts, tools, and supplies, and coordinate reordering as necessary.
- Implement and maintain systems for tracking tools and equipment usage.
Operational Support:
- Train and mentor Junior Shop Technicians, providing guidance on maintenance tasks and shop protocols.
- Perform quality control checks on equipment repairs and maintenance tasks completed by others.
- Support logistics by preparing vehicles and equipment for daily operations.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards and protocols, both in the shop and during field operations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of equipment, tools, and vehicles.
- Participate in safety audits and implement corrective actions as needed.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
- Use RPM’s software systems to log completed tasks and report key metrics.
- Communicate equipment status and repair needs to the Asset/Fleet Manager.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in equipment maintenance or a related field.
- Strong mechanical and technical aptitude, including proficiency with diagnostic tools.
- Knowledge of vehicle and equipment systems, including hydraulics and electrical components.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical issues.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) and work in various weather conditions.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications are a plus.
