What are the responsibilities and job description for the LADC/Dual-License Seeking Intern (Paid) position at RS EDEN?
SUMMARY
Interns will work alongside a licensed alcohol and drug counselor (LADC) to provide substance use disorder treatment services in accordance with 245G requirements for residential and outpatient levels of care. Interns will also Interns will gain experience with program services and tasks that meet requirements for the 12 Core Functions including, screening, intake, orientation, assessment, treatment planning, counseling, case management, crisis intervention, client education, referrals, record keeping, and consultation. Interns will also be provided supervision from a board approved supervisor for dual license seeking (LPCC, LMFT, LICSW) and work alongside MHP’s learning diagnostic assessments, mental health tools and assessments and individual therapy techniques.
Interns will assist LADC/SUD counselors and MPH’s in providing daily supervision of clients, and coordinate and provide clinical services within a modified Therapeutic Community (MTC) modality. Interns will learn flexibility and effective time management practices. Supervision of client’s educational goals provided by their accredited educational institution in conjunction with RS EDEN. This is a temporary position, with length of position dependent on internship needs and requirements.
Pay ranges from $16-$18 per hour
RESPONSIBILITES
- Observe and assist LADCs with tasks related to screening and assessments for placement.
- Observe and facilitate new client intake process.
- Observe and facilitate new client orientation.
- Observe and participate in supervision from assigned LADC supervisor: comprehensive assessments, mental health screenings, PREA and vulnerable adult assessments.
- Participate in supervision from assigned dual license clinician or MHP: diagnostic assessments, mental health screenings and assessments and individual therapy techniques, if applicable.
- Prepare individual treatment plans, weekly treatment plan reviews, progress notes, group notes, discharge summaries, and other client documents using ASAM language and criteria, with supervision from LADC.
- Observe and cofacilitate group and individual counseling sessions with supervision from LADC.
- Assist clients with accessing resources and systems in the community to meet their individual needs.
- Facilitate billing and documentation of services.
- Participates in clinical staff meetings and case reviews as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
- Provide coordination of services with collaterals such as probation, child protection, and community service providers.
- Prepare discharge summaries with supervision from LADC.
- Observe and debrief with LADC supervisor any crisis intervention scenarios which may occur.
- Follow RS EDEN Policy and Procedure regarding collection of urinalysis and breathalyzer samples and document accordingly.
- Promote and instill positive attitude and image in clients.
- Supervise client day-to-day activities and work assignments within a therapeutic community structure.
- Supervise client recreational and community activities, when applicable.
- Serve as a role model for clients by displaying responsible behavior and conducting business with a sense of professionalism.
- Safeguard personally identifiable health information (PHI) in accordance with duties and current agency HIPAA and 42 CFR standards.
Qualifications/Requirements:
This is a paid temporary position for students seeking LADC licensure or in a dual license seeking education program, with the need to complete internship/practicum for educational requirements and licensure as an LADC and MHP (LPCC, LMFT, LICSW). Length of internship is based on the individual’s required hours for internship completion and will be defined at the start of the internship term. Consideration for paid internship will be given to candidates with:
- At least 1 year previous experience in the human services field and/or related lived experience.
- Minimum level Associate’s degree in counseling, human services, or similar (earned or in progress)
- If working towards dual licensure, must be enrolled in a Master’s Degree program. (LADC/LPCC/LPC/LMFT)
Required Qualifications
Education/Experience/Competencies:
- 270 Classroom hours in alcohol and drug counseling curriculum
- Enrolled in an alcohol & drug counseling educational program through an accredited educational institution.
- Ability to connect with, engage, and empathize with people from diverse backgrounds with multiple challenges.
- Strong commitment to equity and inclusion, understanding an individual’s substance use disorder within the context of the larger environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong computer skills.
- Current Mantoux test. (Annual requirement thereafter)
- Must be able to favorably pass applicable criminal history/background checks.
- One year off correctional supervision.
- Two years free of any problems associated with chemical dependency. Employees directly responsible for persons being served by the program are prohibited from abusing prescription medication or being in any manner under the influence of a chemical that impairs the individual’s ability to provide services or care. Individuals in this position may not be in any manner under the influence of a chemical that impairs the individual’s ability to provide services or care.
- Positive driving record (periodic review of driving record required).
- Valid state driver’s license.
- CPR/First Aid training preferred.
