Position Description
The Engineering Manager (EM) is a Leadership position that will lead and oversee all engineering functions within Saunders such as new business onboarding & design, project management, continuous improvement, manufacturing, and processing. This role is responsible for both executing and cultivating a team centered around quality, engineering excellence, efficiencies, and innovation. The EM will play a key role in shaping the company's engineering strategy while ensuring efficient operations to meet both customer and regulatory requirements. The EM will make capital & non-capital budgetary recommendations to Senior Leadership, while working closely with other interdepartmental leaders to drive organizational success. The capacity to collaborate and communicate effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders & customers is of the utmost value, as well as a past performance track record of driving sales through engineering excellence. This role is expected to adhere to all company policies and safety protocols.
Key Competencies Required to be Successful as an Engineering Manager
- Responsible for the entirety of the Saunders engineering function & all associated activities.
- Leads, mentors, and manages a team of engineers (process, design, manufacturing, etc.) while promoting a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement across all facets of the operation.
- Develops and implements overall engineering strategy while actively identifying efficiency improvements across all channels.
- Drives innovative product development and manufacturing processes to ensure scalable manufacturability of parts.
- Oversees the design and development of new parts, ensuring they meet internal, customer, and regulatory requirements.
- Leads efforts to continuously improve manufacturing processes by identifying bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and quality issues.
- Works closely with production teams to promote lean manufacturing, six sigma techniques, and other continuous improvement methodologies to gain efficiencies and drive cost reductions.
- Collaborates with production, supply chain, quality, and sales to ensure seamless execution of projects and targeted KPI's.
- Regularly communicates project progress, issues, resolutions etc. to all stakeholders and Sr. Leadership.
- Works closely with the Quality Assurance team to implement robust testing and validation procedures.
- Serves as both an individual contributor and departmental leader through evolving operating environments.
- Analyzes and translates client designs to prototyped components through innovative and reliable product development methodologies.
- Leads the refinement and manufacture of protype client designs, modifying and testing for manufacturability, reliability, cost effectiveness and profitability.
- Builds and maintains expertise in industry trends and best practices, leveraging knowledge to improve manufacturing engineering methodologies and drive innovation.
- Assists with the evaluation of defective materials received from vendors and communicates feedback as needed.
- Participates in the writing / review of manufacturing documentation (SOPs, MPMs, Deviations).
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Target Base Annual Compensation range for this Exempt role is ~$125k DOE.
