Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Outfitting Designer to join our shipyard team. The Outfitting Designer will be responsible for designing and planning the installation of various outfitting systems and components on ships, including but not limited to interior spaces, machinery, HVAC systems, electrical systems, piping, and safety equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in shipbuilding, CAD software, and a keen understanding of maritime construction standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create detailed 2D and 3D design drawings for the installation of outfitting systems and components on ships.
- Develop layout plans for various ship spaces including accommodation areas, control rooms, engine rooms, and decks.
- Coordinate with other design disciplines (structural, mechanical, electrical) to ensure integration of all systems.
- Prepare and update design documentation, including technical drawings, specifications, and materials lists.
- Ensure compliance with international maritime regulations, standards, and safety codes.
- Collaborate with shipyard engineers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective outfitting installation.
- Review and provide feedback on the technical feasibility of designs and modifications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any design or installation issues that may arise during the outfitting process.
- Assist in preparing estimates for outfitting costs, ensuring designs are aligned with the project budget.
- Participate in meetings with stakeholders, including the project management team and clients, to discuss project updates, challenges, and solutions.
- Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and changes in regulations that could impact outfitting design.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in outfitting design within the shipbuilding or maritime industry.
- Proven experience in the design and installation of shipboard systems (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, electrical, machinery, furniture, etc.).
- Experience with shipyard operations and understanding of shipbuilding processes, timelines, and stages.
- Familiarity with the use of CAD software, such as AutoCAD, Rhino, or ShipConstructor, for creating design layouts and drawings.
- Knowledge of marine safety standards, classification society requirements, and maritime regulations (e.g., SOLAS, IMO, ABS, DNV GL, etc.).
- Strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes used in shipbuilding.
- Previous experience in a multidisciplinary environment and ability to work with cross-functional teams.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage time and resources efficiently.

Certifications (Preferred):
- Certification in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Professional, SolidWorks, or other relevant programs).
