JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Accountant plays a pivotal role in maintaining the general ledger and preparation of financial statements. This position requires both excellent analytical skills and a strong understanding of accounting principles. The incumbent should be a highly motivated self-starter with previous accounting experience in the healthcare industry. May lead and direct the work of others.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Participates in month end close activities including preparation of journal entries
- Prepares monthly account reconciliations and ensures that general ledger and sub-ledger are reconciled with resolution to reconciling items.
- Coordinates, reviews, and approves financial statement variance analysis.
- Identifies and communicates accounting adjustments to management.
- Prepares reports and delivers recommendations for balance sheet and statement reviews.
- May be accountable for the coordination, compilation, and verification of financial reports and analyses.
- Participates in the development, maintenance and monitoring of policies and procedures.
- Conduct special projects as assigned.
- Creating/Developing regular and ad-hoc reports.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
· Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
· Experience with accounting principles and procedures
· Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
· Ability to analyze financial data and to prepare accurate reports in a timely fashion
· Knowledge and ability in the use of a personal computer and software applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, NetSuite, etc.)
· Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate and detailed records
· Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
· Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions
· Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions
· Ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate relationships with the physicians, allied health professionals, the public, other authorities, agencies, employees, and vendors
· A minimum of a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in accounting or a commensurate combination of education and experience.
· At least four years of accounting experience in the healthcare industry
