ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Carry out evaluation into polymer-based materials for application in unbonded flexible pipes.
- Carry out research and evaluation into polymer processing techniques.
- Painting / coating inspection of steel structural works, pipeline, pressure vessels, offshore vessels, new building & repairing ships.
- Monitor weather condition for surface preparation and painting / coating application.
- Prepare “inspection & test plan” (ITP) for specific project / company requirements/ surface preparation and painting / coating procedure.
- To check and monitor all painting / coating related works and ensure all final products meet in accordance with company procedure, client requirement and international codes.
- Develop and implement nonmetallic material testing programs in R&D.
- Co-ordinate with the paint manufacturer technical representative on regular basis
- Participate in idea generation activities in identifying developments opportunities.
- Required to either lead or be a member of a cross-functional team supporting internal or external quality programs.
- Develop and define detailed work package planning and resource schedules /project plans.
- Identify and support patent assessments and filing opportunities.
- Interfaces directly with supplier technical representatives in the development and application of materials to verify the properties. Resolves material related problems which may develop during the processes employed by suppliers for material manufacture and during in-house manufacturing of pipe and related components.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, industry standards or governmental regulations including ISO, API, ASME, and ASTM.
- Prepare documents illustrating conformance of materials to technical procedures, industry standards or governmental regulations.
- Active participation on industry standard committees
- Attend and support trade shows, fellowships, conferences, exhibits, and seminars as requested.
- Writes consistent, clear documentation that presents complex information simply and accurately
- Works with others to develop documentation and communications
- Produces and/or approves technical manuals, procedural manuals, process specifications, brochures, etc. (hard copy and electronic) that conforms to company procedures and/or industry standards
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- High level of initiative and fine with admitting they do not know everything
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Travel to customers and suppliers
- Computer use for laboratory reports and research functions

- Varies between office, lab, plants, and shops
- Activities that are outside and exposed to the elements (sun, wind, rain, etc.).
- Travel is up to 50-75% of the time.
Activities that involve high pressure equipment, moving machinery, excessive noise and working at elevations inside chemical and industrial plants.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering required or related discipline plus 2 – 4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. NACE Certified Inspector Certification preferred.
- Familiarity with ISO, API, ASTM, and NACE standards applicable to materials used in the oil and gas industry is necessary.
- Experience in the use of nonmetallic materials characterization and mechanical laboratory test equipment highly desirable (DSC, TGA, SEM/EDS, and DMA).
- Familiarity with word processing, database, spreadsheet and presentation software.
