The Manager, Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) Maintenance is responsible for overseeing the effective and efficient maintenance of the Light Rail Vehicle fleet to ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance. Reports to General Superintendent of LRV Maintenance Operations. This role supervises LRV Maintenance Supervisors and LRV Maintenance Instructor/Supervisors, providing leadership and direction to a union workforce. The Manager ensures all activities align with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations and organizational standards, while fostering a culture of safety, quality, and accountability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Recruits and provides direct supervision to LRV Maintenance Supervisors and LRV Maintenance Instructor/Supervisors, offering leadership and guidance to the maintenance team. This includes fostering a safe, efficient, and inclusive work environment while ensuring employee performance aligns with organizational policies, procedures, and labor agreements.
  • Oversees maintenance operations, ensures the development and implementation of effective preventive maintenance programs and timely repairs to maintain vehicle reliability and readiness, and monitors the quality of work completed, ensuring all maintenance activities meet organizational safety and efficiency goals.
  • Requires a strong focus on regulatory compliance, ensuring adherence to FTA and state safety requirements. This includes preparing detailed reports on maintenance activities, fleet performance, and compliance audits while collaborating closely with safety and compliance teams to address corrective actions or findings effectively.
  • Performs a pivotal role in coordinating training and development by overseeing the creation and delivery of maintenance training programs. Ensures training programs align with technical standards and regulatory requirements, and evaluates the effectiveness, driving improvements to meet the evolving needs of the team.
  • Assists with budget preparation and ensures the efficient use of assigned resources. This includes managing inventory and optimizing the procurement of parts, tools, and equipment to support maintenance operations.
  • Manages the performance of a union workforce which requires skillful leadership to uphold productivity and accountability. Collaborates with union representatives to maintain positive labor-management relations and works to address workforce matters, resolve grievances, and enforce labor agreements in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Drives continuous improvement initiatives by implementing best practices to enhance maintenance processes, reduce downtime, and improve fleet reliability. Evaluates emerging technologies and recommends system upgrades to improve operational efficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate degree in electrical/electronic engineering or a closely related technical field of study.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in electro-mechanical maintenance, automotive, aerospace, or a similar industry.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in supervising maintenance activities, preferably within a union workforce.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems such as: experience in theory, operation, repair, and/or overhaul systems like those found on light rail vehicles, electrical components, shop equipment, air conditioning, heating, hydraulics and other related light rail vehicle systems.
  • Understanding of FTA regulations, safety standards, and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Availability for on-call and emergency response as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written means.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and maintenance management systems.

  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; explosives and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

Pay Range:
$100,284.00 - $141,650.25 Annual
