The Global Health Division (GHD), within the International Development Group (IDG), works in Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs); Global Health Security and Public Health Preparedness; Health Systems Strengthening - including Health Governance, Health Finance, Human Resources for Health, Capacity Building, and Health Policy and Advocacy; and Integrated Care - including Reproductive, Maternal, and Child Health and Family Planning. We address a range of public health problems to reduce disparities, lower disease burdens, and build locally owned sustainable health programs.
The GHD is seeking a Survey Data Specialist to provide data management and analysis support to health ministries’ Neglected Tropical Disease programming, under USAID’s Act to End NTDs | East program. The successful candidate will have experience with geographic information system (GIS), electronic data collection, data management, and data analysis. This individual will collaborate with multiple team members from diverse backgrounds.
This position will report to the Senior Epidemiologist. It will be based in RTI’s Washington, D.C. office, RTI’s headquarters in Durham, NC, or be a full time teleworker and be regularly available for meeting during business hours in US eastern standard time zone.
Responsibilities
Provides technical support for the development and implementation of survey data management and analysis across NTD programs.
Essential Duties:
- Provide methodological support to survey projects including protocol development, the use of electronic data collection, real-time data monitoring, data management, and results analysis.
- Create offline and online maps of survey and contextual data for programmatic decision making and dissemination, including accessing, cleaning, and preparing geospatial data for use
- Customize and test standard electronic data collection forms (questionaires) in Open Data Kit (ODK).
- Maintain repository for standard survey materials including data collection forms, field training materials, data analysis code, and other standard operating procedures.
- Support the development of training tools, guidelines, reference materials, standard survey materials, and other standard operating procedures.
- Support trainings on data collection to in-country and ministry of health teams.
- Review protocols and reports to ensure survey implementation follows global guidance and specific study design.
- Contribute through writing or review to technical reports, manuscripts, and abstracts.
- Provide administrative support to team including coordinating routine team meetings, tracking manuscript publication, and other general support tasks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of experience, Master's degree and 1 year of experience, relevant experience in statistics, computer science, public health, statistics, economics, or another analytics field.
- Proven programming and analysis ability in STATA, SAS, or R statistical software.
- Proven experience with map making and basic spatial analysis in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS or QGIS).
- Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g., ODK), online map making, advanced data visualization and or dashboards (Metabase, Power BI, etc.), and working in/querying SQL database environment.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Skills & Abilities
- Experience with surveys in low or middle income countries
- Excellent knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel.
- Capacity to prioritize and manage multiple tasks; strong organizational skills; and must be detail-oriented and hard-working.
- Ability to listen and communicate well in English both verbally and in writing.
- Possible travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time.
