REPORTS TO: Director of Accounting Services
SUPERVISES: Senior Accountant, Accountant, Courier
COMPENSATION: $36.06/hr. - $37.50/hr. ($75K-$78K annually) (depending on experience)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supervision
- Directs, monitors, and appraises the performance of direct reports and provides the necessary project and task allocation and tracking coordination between activities.
- Identifies training needs, initiates development of subordinates through goal setting, and recommends effective personnel action.
Financial Reporting and Audit
- Directs the monthly and annual general ledger closing process to ensure timely delivery of accurate internal financial statements within required timeframes.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications.
- Oversight of the preparation of documents necessary for the preparation of external financial reports.
Treasury
- Oversight of the activities of the cash collection vendor to ensure appropriate design and operating effectiveness of internal controls over custody of cash.
- Reviewing daily farebox deposit activity and reconciliation process in order to resolve discrepancies.
Accounts Receivable
- Oversee the billing and collection cycle for all sources of revenue, including business partnerships and governmental entities.
- Monitor the effectiveness of collection of amounts outstanding and direct appropriate follow up efforts as needed.
Accounts Payable
- Oversee the vendor disbursement cycle for all operating companies in a manner that assures timely payment for goods and services.
- Monitor the timeliness of disbursements and direct efforts to resolve internal and external customer disputes as needed.
- Direct annual 1099 preparation process to ensure timely distribution to recipients and filing with the IRS.
Statutory Reporting
- Direct the preparation and submission of the annual National Transit Database (NTD) report and work with NTD analyst to address all follow up inquiries.
- Review all required periodic reports, including the quarterly New York State Operating Assistance (STOA) filing.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Transfer excess funds.
- Oversight of fare media inventory.
- Maintain Lawson Job Scheduler.
- Manage M&T Supplier Pay.
- Responsible for Lawson system close of all modules.
- Conduct internal compliance audits.
- Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA and public accounting experience preferred.
- Experience in Lawson Financial System (Infor) preferred.
- Proven working experience in roles such as Audit Manager, Accounting Manager, Accounting Supervisor with at least three years of general accounting experience across all accounting disciplines; at least three (3) years of experience supervising employees. Proven record of process improvement.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to perform a wide variety of duties requiring considerable judgment to work independently devising new methods, adapting, or changing standard procedures to meet new conditions and making decisions guided by precedent and within the limits of established policies.
- Ability to work from general objectives, policies, procedures, rules, or precedents with little functional guidance. Rarely refers specific cases to supervisor unless clarification or interpretation is involved. Review by supervisor focuses on achievement of the objective and not on the means.
- Excellent computer skills, including intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite, Lawson Financial System (Infor).
- Strong accounting skills; comprehensive knowledge of GAAP.
- Must use and serve as administrator on various financial institutions' websites, applications, and software.
- Attentive to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to work across all levels of the organization.
- Strong time management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
- Ability to think critically and strategically; business insight.

Salary : $75,000 - $78,000
