JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Accounting Assistant
Reports To: Assistant Controller
Type of Position: Full-Time Status: Non-Exempt
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Maintain accurate financial records including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, intercompany accounts, and assist with month-end closing processes.
- Process invoices, receipts, payments, and other financial transactions in a timely manner, and provide backup support to accounts payable and payroll departments when needed.
- Reconcile bank statements and ensure all transactions are recorded correctly.
- Coordinate with external vendors, clients, and financial institutions as necessary.
- Assist with compliance with accounting principles, regulations, and company policies.
- Assist with audits and tax preparation, including the preparation of Business Tax Returns, Sales and Use Tax Returns, Monthly Sales Tax Returns, and Tangible Personal Property Returns.
- Provides backup assistance for cash room.
- Answers phones and assists callers with timed ticket reservations, as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, grab, press, carry and push to perform essential duties.
- Ability to successfully navigate stairs.
- Lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Required to sit, walk, stoop, kneel and/or crouch frequently.
Education and Experience:
- Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, preferred, but not required.
- Proven experience as a bookkeeper, payables clerk, payroll clerk, or other similar role.
Qualifications and Other Requirements:
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Analytical skills to use in reconciling multiple areas.
- Must possess excellent computer skills and be proficient in MS Office. Knowledge of excel to generate new and update existing spreadsheets is required.
- Knowledge of accounting software such as NetSuite preferred but not required.
- Ability to read, interpret, and analyze financial data.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work with minimum amount of supervision.
- Ability to multi-task and manage projects effectively.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
