Position Overview:
|
Ruidoso High School and Ruidoso Middle School seek a dedicated and passionate Band & Choir Teacher to lead both instrumental and vocal music programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and directing beginning and advanced band, as well as choir, while fostering a love of music in students and guiding them toward excellence in performance.

Qualifications:
|
- Bachelor's degree in K-12 Music Education.
- Current New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) teaching license with appropriate endorsements, or ability to obtain proper licensure within 90 days of hire.
- Successful experience teaching secondary school students.
- Strong knowledge of instrumental and choral music instruction.
- Familiarity with state policies governing music programs, with the ability to implement policies and procedures.
- Excellent communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to meet physical demands, including prolonged standing/walking, frequent kneeling/squatting, and occasional lifting (less than 50 pounds).
- Comfortable working in an environment with exposure to noise, varying temperatures, and both indoor and outdoor settings.

Responsibilities:
|
Program Development & Instruction:
- Direct and manage the overall instrumental and vocal music programs for the district.
- Organize and facilitate "zero hour" (stipend provided).
- Provide students with opportunities to participate in extracurricular band and choir activities while ensuring compliance with state and district requirements.
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that accommodate individual student differences.
- Utilize appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and materials to support diverse learning needs.
- Other duties as assigned
Performance & Student Engagement:
- Direct high school and middle school instrumental and vocal performers, including marching band, concert band, choir, soloists, and ensembles.
- Establish performance requirements and enforce academic eligibility standards for participation.
- Coordinate and lead performances at concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, and other school and community events.
- Arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town performances.
- Accompany and supervise students on music-related trips and competitions.
Program Administration & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and district policies regarding band and choir programs.
- Utilize student achievement data, surveys and evaluative findings to improve program effectiveness.
- Develop cost-effective program budgets, manage funds wisely, and coordinate fundraising efforts.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of instruments, uniforms, and music equipment, ensuring proper storage, cleaning, and repairs.
Collaboration & Professionalism:
- Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and community members.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and Professional Learning Teams.
- Take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of students, equipment, and facilities.
- Actively participate in school-wide events and initiatives to promote music education.
