Starter

• Schedule: Part-time shifts include weekends and holidays.

• Pay: $1,800-$2100 per week

Purpose of the Starter:

The Starter oversees all horses during races once they leave the paddock.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides a fair and equal start of all horses in a race by means of a starting gate
• Supervises horses entered in any race from the moment they leave the paddock until the time that the start is affected
• Acts as a patrol judge during the course of the race
• Other duties as assigned

Skills/Requirements

• Must have a high school diploma/GED
• Must have organizational skills
• Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
• Must possess the ability to obtain a Minnesota Racing Commission gaming license

Physical, intellectual and environmental conditions:

• Ability to handle frequent walking, standing and sitting
• Must have knowledge of Minnesota Racing Rules and Procedures
• Must be able to work flexible shifts in a crowded noisy environment
• Must be able to work in various weather conditions
