THE OPPORTUNITY
The estimator will work closely with the commercial division manager in preparing, evaluating and submitting concrete proposals for construction projects. This position will frequently be in communication with clients, vendors and other estimating team members and plays a key role in the procurement of work and growing the business.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
• Retrieving electronic bidding documents for commercial estimates.
• Becoming familiar with all aspects of the job plans and specifications; fully understand the scope of work.
• Quantifying concrete and rebar material takeoffs for the scope of work.
• Manipulating and shaping the unit pricing according to the scope of work requirements.
• Analyzing subcontractor and vendor bids if required and incorporate those proposals into the estimate accordingly.
• Adjusting the total estimate according to template unit prices based on analysis of material, labor, equip, other, indirect, overhead and profit.
• Writing, shaping, and communicating the project clarifications, inclusions and exclusions.
• Communicating and working with clients for each bid to obtain all details for accurate estimating.
• Reviewing cost history on completed projects and applying appropriate prices and labor factors to materials, equipment, formwork, etc.
• Preparing initial job notes for new projects for Project Management and the Field (Estimate, proposal, scope, requirements, bid assumptions, schedules, vendor quotes, specifications, correspondence, promises made, etc.).
• Participating in transition of job from estimating to project management (including planning, buyouts, scope, etc.).
• Maintaining and updating a bid tracking, lead tracking and bid closing spreadsheet.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO OUR ORGANIZATION
REQUIRED:
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in commercial construction estimating, preferably in concrete.
• Working knowledge of construction estimating software programs.
• Proficiency in understanding, reading and interpreting plans/project drawings and specifications.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Ability to work well with deadlines.
PREFERRED:
• College degree.
• Experience in estimating software programs such as ProEst and ProContractor
• Strong mathematical aptitude as it relates to volume type calculations.
• Experience communicating with clients and vendors.
• Experience in detailed written communication.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Office environment with a computer and other typical office tools and equipment.
• Works in a typical 45-hour work week situation but will be expected to work additional hours in busy seasons.
• Will be required to occasionally meet with customers at locations of the customer’s choice.
• Will be required to occasionally travel to project sites.
• While performing the duties of this job, you may be required to reach with hands and arms and required to frequently stand; talk or hear; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls.
• While performing the duties of this job, you may occasionally be required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• While performing the duties of this job, you may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
