EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Spend approximately 90% of time administrating to the daily functions of the Rusk County Dispatch Center and Rusk County Jail in order to insure the safe and efficient operations of each bureau. This includes, but is not limited to: The consultation, guidance, and evaluation of personnel within the Communications Center and the Rusk County JailThe promotion of teamwork, productivity, and taking steps to improve morale of the staff within the Dispatch/Jail BureauThe supervision of activities and operations that will insure a courteous and professional, timely response to all calls-for-service and requests made of the Dispatch/Jail Bureau by any other agency or organizationAssisting the Sheriff and Chief Deputy with organizational, administrative, and disciplinary processes of the Dispatch/Jail Bureau as it relates to employee performance and will issue discipline up to and including suspension and will effectively recommend employee dismissal to the Sheriff or Chief DeputyProvide management input and planning in regard to contract negotiations with the bargaining unit and when requested by the Sheriff, act as member of the management team, during some or all of the contract negotiations processDelegating work assignments to employees within the Dispatch/Jail Bureau and helping to insure employee understanding and compliance with all Dispatch/Jail and Department Policy and Procedures, Rules, and RegulationsCoordinates Dispatcher/Jailer schedules with the Chief Deputy and reviews all Dispatcher/ Jailer training needs and activitiesCoordinates all Dispatch and Jail maintenance needs with the chief DeputyOversee the operations of the jail to insure a safe and secure operating environment for all who enter the Rusk County Jail, to include: Direct procedures relating to the inmate intake processing into the jailCoordination of inmate medical servicesCoordination of inmate food serviceImplement and direct inmate disciplinary actionsOversee the transportation needs of inmatesRegulation of inmate visitation and communicationsOverseeing inmate huber law employment and provisionsReviewing and approving or denying all inmate requestsInspection of the jail facility to ensure security and cleanlinessSupervision of inmate cell searchesMonitoring of jail activities to ensure that records and reports are completed appropriately, timely, and in compliance with Department Policy and state regulationsInvestigate complaints and provide positive, effective discipline concerning jail staff and inmate issuesEnforcement of applicable local, state, and federal laws as applied to County JailsServe as court officer for inmates and assist with dispatch and jail duties when neededAttend and actively participate in departmental staff meetings as requiredAttends meetings upon the request of the SheriffPerform all other duties assigned by the Sheriff or Chief Deputy

The position involves occasional stair climbing, lifting, and physical movement to respond to incidents or emergencies.Due to the nature of law enforcement, emergency situations may arise that require quick reflexes, physical exertion, and immediate decision-making beyond routine duties. The ability to remain alert, adaptable, and physically capable under pressure is crucial.Work EnvironmentA majority of the shift is spent inside where you will be subject to various atmospheric fluctuations while being in a physically confined work setting.
