What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Russell Construction of Alabama?
Eligibility: This position is eligible for negotiated salary, benefits, health insurance, 401-K, bonuses and sick/vacation time.
The estimating position represents several levels of worker characteristics and responsibilities. Depending on project requirements, other work disciplines which may need to be reviewed include cost engineering, scheduling, supervision, marketing, engineering, purchasing, and contract administration.
Primary Function: To create contract proposal estimates based upon provided plans or direct evaluation of site conditions and needs for one or more disciplines while developing relationships with Owners and subcontractors.
Typical Duties:
1. Review proposal specifications, drawings, and other supplemental documents to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
2. Calculate material quantity requirements based on field measurements or quantity surveys based on plans.
3. Price self-performed items based upon historical crew productions and current crew/manpower labor costs.
4. Price non self-performed work based upon sub consultant bids.
5. Keep records of historical data from previous projects for use and comparison of estimates.
6. Prepare and send out all available documents or data for pricing.
7. Perform clerical duties such as setting up estimate folders, maintain files upon estimate completion, reproducing documents/drawings as needed for use in bid proposals.
8. Provided transitional documents to transfer estimate into production for Project Management.
9. Provide marketing assistance and initial presentation help for projects.
