The Director of Budget is crucial in supporting the college's financial health and sustainability. This position involves analyzing, developing, and managing the college's budgetary process, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and compliance with regulations. The Director of Budget will collaborate with the College's departments to prepare accurate forecasts, monitor expenditures, and provide insightful financial reports.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the preparation, implantation, and motoring of the College's annual budget
  • Conducts in-depth financial analysis, identifying trends and variances and recommending budget adjustments.
  • Collaborates with department heads to gather and analyze budget requests, ensuring alignment with institutional goals.
  • Stay updated on changes in budgeting regulations and policies, implementing necessary adjustments.
  • Identify trends and provide insights to enhance financial performance and efficiency.
  • Maintains a comprehensive project list and associated budget for each. Monitors project progress and completion compared to budget.
  • Conducts financial forecasting to support strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Evaluate the chart of accounts as required by request and make recommendations.
  • Compiles and prepares comprehensive reports for submission to local, state, and federal agencies, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. Respond to inquiries from external agencies regarding submitted reports and provide additional information as needed.
  • Manages the college's budget software systems, ensuring accurate data entry and reporting.
  • Assists departments in understanding budgetary constraints and optimizing their financial resources.
  • Assists in developing and updating budgetary policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and transparency.
  • Monitor staff adherence to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations
  • Ensures that all budgeting processes adhere to institutional policies.
  • Engages in professional development to stay informed about best practices in budget management.
  • Recommends changes/improvements in accounting, budgeting, and reporting procedures following Budget Requirements and Annual Financial Reporting Requirements.
  • Provides guidance, support, and mentorship to staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment
  • Participates in the systematic review and evaluation process per the institutional effectiveness model adopted by the College.
  • Completes duties and responsibilities in compliance with College standards, policies, and guidelines.
  • Uses interpersonal skills and makes sound judgments to decide how duties and responsibilities are completed between coworkers, the supervisory chain, faculty, staff, students, and customers.
  • Completes all training and professional development sessions the Russell Sage College (RSC) requires.
  • Attends RSC Board Meetings upon request.
  • Supports the values and institutional goals defined in the College's Strategic Plan.
  • Working hours may include evenings, holidays, or weekends depending on deadline requirements and special events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The estimated salary range is $75,000 to $85,000 per year for 40 hours per week for 52 weeks.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and practices of generally accepted accounting and regulations related to budgeting and accounting.
  • Possess strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Capable of communicating complex financial information.
  • Skilled in examining and verifying various financial documents and reports.
  • Proficient in preparing diverse, complex financial statements and reports analyses.
  • Possess a proactive approach to problem-solving and a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to interpret and apply RSC College policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of operational characteristics, services, and activities of the College.
  • Proficient in using MS Suite, with advanced skills in Excel and analysis and reporting

Required Education and Experience

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the education and experience required.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a concentration in accounting, business administration, or finance.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of work experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and accounting in a college setting or similar not-for-profit.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and other financial software
  • Ability to create and maintain complex spreadsheets and financial models.
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, or CPA license.
