Job Title: Mechanical Field Engineer

Duration: 12 months with the possibility of extension
Salary: $60/hr. to $68/hr.
Overtime: Yes, up to 60 hours/week, including weekends/shutdown periods (overtime pay applies)
Travel: Up to 50% domestic travel required
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Field Engineer with experience in automotive and industrial environments to oversee mechanical building system startups, commissioning activities, and ensure quality control in mechanical and construction projects. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Electrical Engineering may be considered in exceptional cases).
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and facilitate mechanical building system startups & commissioning activities.
- Review product and equipment submittals, shop drawings, and engineering design drawings.
- Conduct field inspections and quality assurance checks to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
- Verify proper HVAC installation, chilled water installation, and other mechanical systems.
- Work closely with building contractors and equipment vendors to coordinate testing, installation, and commissioning.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and building codes (IBC, NEC, NFPA, ASME, etc.).
- Manage shutdown work coordination with contractors, plant facilities groups, and manufacturing teams.
- Monitor construction progress and provide regular engineering status reports to project managers.
- Participate in weekly coordination meetings, schedule planning, and utility outage discussions.
- Oversee mechanical contractors to ensure compliance with project timelines, quality standards, and regulatory codes.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements in technical specifications and construction standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or Electrical Engineering in exceptional cases).
- 5 years of experience in mechanical and construction engineering (10 years preferred).
- Extensive automotive and industrial experience.
- Strong background in HVAC and chilled water installation.
- Knowledge of building codes, industry standards, and safety protocols.
- Ability to conduct quality inspections and field verification of installations.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Ability to work onsite from Day 1 and travel up to 50% domestically.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
