Role and Responsibilities:
We are seeking a passionate, mission-oriented individual to lead our indoor hydroponic farming operations. The Indoor Farm Operation Manager to oversee the daily operations of our controlled indoor farming facility. In this role, you will be responsible for growing and managing leafy greens, herbs, and vegetables in a hydroponic system, while leading a team that includes adults with disabilities. Your leadership and expertise in horticulture will contribute to our mission of improving access to healthy food, promoting sustainable farming practices, and fostering an inclusive work environment.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the hydroponic farming system, including planting, growing, harvesting, and packaging of leafy greens, herbs, and vegetables.
- Manage climate control systems (temperature, humidity, light) to optimize plant growth and maintain consistent production levels.
- Monitor crop health, identify issues such as pests or diseases, and implement sustainable solutions to ensure optimal yield and quality.
- Supervise and train a team of employees, including individuals with disabilities, providing clear instructions and fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment.
- Ensure all food safety standards, hygiene protocols, and industry best practices are strictly followed.
- Conduct regular inspections, service checks, and maintain accurate documentation for regulatory compliance.
- Maintain detailed records of plant growth, harvest cycles, production data, and inventory management.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on farm operations, crop performance, and staff activities.
- Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of all hydroponic systems, tools, and facilities.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with equipment or system performance.
- Communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and team members to ensure smooth operations, resolve issues, and maintain strong relationships.
- Help plan and manage the distribution of fresh, organic produce to shelters, food deserts, and other underserved communities, ensuring that healthy food reaches those who need it most.
- Assist in the development and management of the farm's budget, including resource allocation for staffing, supplies, and operational costs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Horticultural Sciences or a related field (Preferred)
- Minimum of (2) years supervisory experience, with a proven ability to lead and mentor diverse teams.
- Demonstrated experience in horticulture or gardening, with a focus on indoor farming, hydroponics, or similar systems.
- Experience in retail or social enterprise operations (Preferred)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Skills:
- Strong knowledge of hydroponics, indoor farming techniques, and food safety standards.
- Ability to manage climate systems and optimize growing conditions for a variety of crops.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with staff, customers, and vendors.
- Demonstrated customer service skills with a focus on community impact and support.
- Experience with budget management and operational planning (Preferred)
