The Press Brake Operator is responsible for ensuring the proper operation of press brake machines to accurately bend and shape metal materials in accordance with blueprints, drawings, or specifications. The role requires the ability to work with various types of metals, including steel, aluminum, and other alloys, while maintaining high standards of safety, precision, and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Machine Setup:
- Set up and calibrate the press brake machine according to work orders, drawings, or blueprints.
- Select and install appropriate dies and tools for the bending process.
- Adjust machine settings (e.g., pressure, back gauge, and bend angle) to ensure proper bend accuracy.
- Operation:
- Operate press brake machines to bend metal sheets, plates, or other materials based on the specifications provided.
- Monitor machine operations during production to ensure the quality of work and make adjustments as needed.
- Load, unload, and position material on the machine for proper alignment and bending.
- Quality Control:
- Inspect finished products for conformity to design specifications using measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and protractors.
- Perform visual inspections and measurements to detect defects or inconsistencies.
- Make necessary adjustments to the press brake settings to maintain precise tolerances.
- Maintenance and Safety:
- Perform routine maintenance on the press brake machine to ensure it is in good working condition.
- Follow all safety protocols and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Troubleshooting:
- Identify and troubleshoot issues with the machine or material, such as bending irregularities or machine malfunctions.
- Make repairs or report issues to maintenance personnel when necessary.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of production, including quantities produced, machine settings, and any issues encountered.
- Report any discrepancies or production delays to supervisors and communicate necessary adjustments to the workflow.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in manufacturing or machine operation is a plus.
- Experience: Previous experience as a Press Brake Operator or in a similar machine operation role is preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of press brake machine operation, including tool selection and machine setup.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
- Proficiency with measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges).
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
