Summary
The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for directing transportation personnel and the transportation process throughout the overnight warehouse production shifts to ensure delivery of product to customer locations in a timely, dependable, damage-free condition. They also ensure vehicles are appropriately reliable and well-maintained within DOT guidelines.
Essential Functions
- Lead and develop/train employees to achieve desired results and maximize their potential.
- Ensure all drivers comply with DOT log requirements.
- Maintain truck fleet to ensure a high level of performance.
- Assign trucks to meet customer needs, while maximizing the use of resources and minimizing expenses.
- Review load quality throughout the production shift; providing necessary feedback to the warehouse loaders and management team.
- Generate and maintain records to comply with state and federal DOT regulations.
- Keep informed of all legislative changes which impact the DOT and CDL laws.
- Support Warehouse Night Production Management team.
- Actively communicates with Transportation Manager and other stakeholders to ensure continuity of information.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Responsible for a staff comprised of clerical support, semi- and straight-truck drivers.
- Ensure the consistent and timely delivery of goods to our customers.
- Must work closely with warehouse management.
- Makes driver assignment changes throughout the evening in response to driver call-ins or other unplanned events causing driver absences.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, or moderately loud when in the field. This job also operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours will vary dependent upon distribution demands.
This position works approximately Sunday-Thursday; 9:00pm - 6:00am .
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
- One year or more related experience and/or training; or Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must pass the DOT physical exam and drug and alcohol test.
- Experience in truck fleet management is preferred.
- Must have experience in direct supervision of departmental personnel.
Licensing and Certification
- Valid CDL A License preferred.
- Air Brakes and Doubles Endorsements are required for Semi Driver position.
