Working closely with project managers, schedulers, and field teams, this role emphasizes cost integration with engineering, procurement, and construction processes. This is not a finance role, but a key technical position designed to ensure cost efficiency and project success.
What You Will Do:
Field Collaboration and Integration
- Act as a liaison between field teams, project managers, and office-based support teams to ensure integration of cost control activities with on-site operations.
- Participate in site visits to verify progress, validate cost data, and understand on-the-ground challenges affecting budget performance.
- Collaborate with project teams to establish cost control systems and procedures tailored to project goals.
- Develop baseline budgets that align with approved project scopes and schedules.
- Coordinate with schedulers to ensure cost elements are integrated into the project timeline, identifying cost-critical activities.
- Assist in setting up project coding structures for cost tracking and reporting in ERP and project management systems.
- Continuously monitor project costs against budgets and forecasts, ensuring accurate tracking of expenditures.
- Work with field teams to collect and analyze data related to labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor costs, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Support the assessment and documentation of project scope changes, preparing detailed cost analyses for proposed changes.
- Evaluate the financial impact of change orders, ensuring timely processing and updates to project budgets and forecasts.
- Ensure transparency and accountability in all budget modifications.
- Assist in identifying cost risks early in the project lifecycle, contributing to the development of proactive mitigation strategies.
- Analyze the financial implications of potential project delays, resource constraints, or unforeseen conditions, providing recommendations to reduce cost impacts.
- Develop contingency plans and track contingency usage throughout the project to manage risk effectively.
- Present cost-related insights to project teams and senior leadership, highlighting areas for corrective action.
- Generate cost flow projections aligned with project schedules, ensuring stakeholders are informed of upcoming financial requirements.
- Maintain open communication with project managers, schedulers, and field teams to ensure cost data supports decision-making.
- Baseline Budget: Initial budget aligned with project schedules and resources.
- Cost Reports: Regular detailed reports, including variance analysis and Earned Value metrics.
- Forecast Updates: Timely and accurate updates to project cost forecasts reflecting progress and scope changes.
- Change Log: Comprehensive record of all budget modifications and approved change orders.
- Risk Assessments: Detailed analysis of cost risks and proposed mitigation strategies.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in cost control or financial analysis within the construction or related industry.
- Experience in heavy-civil projects, including highways, bridges, and large infrastructure projects, is a plus.
- Proficiency in cost management software and tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Viewpoint Vista, or similar).
- Strong knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM) principles.
- Familiarity with construction contracts, change orders, and claims processes.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 15% of the time may be necessary.
- Candidates should be available during standard working hours.
- Flexibility in working hours is preferred to manage projects in different time zones or with varying schedules.
