The South Carolina Department of Public Health is seeking an epidemiologist to join our team. This position will participate in the surveillance of respiratory diseases including COVID-19, respiratory syncytial virus, and influenza.
Responsibilities will include:
State Minimum Requirements: Master's degree in Public Health in epidemiology, biostatistics or a closely related field.
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
Agency Additional Requirements: A doctoral degree in epidemiology, or advanced training in applied epidemiology, such as the Public Health Prevention Specialist Program at the CDC may substitute for experience.

Description:
The South Carolina Department of Public Health is seeking an epidemiologist to join our team. This position will participate in the surveillance of respiratory diseases including COVID-19, respiratory syncytial virus, and influenza.
Responsibilities will include:
- Analyzing and summarizing data from multiple sources including syndromic surveillance, electronic surveillance systems, and reporting institutions.
- Reviewing and approving disease notifications in South Carolina’s electronic disease surveillance system
- Completing case investigations for respiratory virus-associated deaths
- Assisting with the development of quality assurance standards and analysis tools of the surveillance systems for respiratory diseases
- Participating in the validation of electronic data transmissions from hospitals, reference labs, and other providers
- Expanding and enhancing capacity for surveillance of respiratory viruses
- Providing education and training to DPH staff as needed
- Reviewing and updating policies and guidance documents

The South Carolina Department of Public Health offers an exceptional benefits package for temporary grant positions that includes:
