BESS Technician
Saber Power Services, LLC, (SPS) located in Houston, TX is a nationally recognized full service, EPC, specialty engineering, procurement, construction and testing and commissioning company specializing in complex medium and high voltage electrical infrastructure in North America.
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Technician in Houston, TX to support the installation, maintenance, and operation of large-scale battery storage systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical systems, experience with battery storage technologies, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, commission, troubleshoot, and maintain Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and related equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance on BESS, including inspecting electrical systems, performing diagnostics, and calibrating equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical issues with BESS, ensuring proper functionality and minimizing downtime.
- Monitor system performance and ensure optimal operation of the storage units.
- Assist with integration of BESS into larger energy systems, including solar or wind power facilities.
- Respond to emergency maintenance calls and perform necessary repairs on short notice.
- Follow safety protocols and ensure compliance with all regulatory standards and industry best practices.
- Document all work performed, including maintenance records, troubleshooting logs, and system performance reports.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to optimize system performance and support project goals.
- Stay up to date on the latest BESS technologies and industry trends.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 2 years of experience working with electrical systems, preferably in renewable energy or battery storage.
- Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or similar technologies is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of electrical wiring, schematics, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Familiarity with energy management systems, inverters, and power electronics.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and in physically demanding environments.
- Willingness to travel to various job sites as required.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with energy storage software systems.
- Knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as NEC, IEEE, and OSHA.
- OSHA 10/30, NFPA70e, and First Aid/AED/CPR as preferred certifications.
