Scope of Responsibility:
The Director of Procurement will lead, manage and direct the purchasing activities for Sabre Industries’ Building System Division. This role will be responsible for putting in place a high-performing team which can enhance the company’s leadership position with some markets and customers and enable market leadership in areas it does not currently dominate. The successful candidate will assess current needs and capabilities against procurement best practices and the sector’s and company’s growth potential, thereafter preparing a plan to address the opportunities identified in the most cost-efficient yet scalable manner.
Essential Duties:
- Negotiate pricing, both current and future, based on volume, quality, warranty, timeliness and other factors where and as appropriate.
- Establish protocols for negotiations and for purchase contracts - terms and conditions to include clearly delineated, and mutually agreed in advance, steps to be taken (and/or deductions in price) when products do not meet quality criteria, are not delivered within the specified timeframe, or fail on the job within the negotiated warranty period.
- Establish and communicate bidding protocols where and as appropriate, including identification of winning bids based on a weighted system which recognizes, and assigns value to, factors important to the project other than pricing alone.
- Develop alliance relationships with key suppliers, so that Sabre personnel understand how those suppliers can lower pricing and/or increase speed or quality or reliability and can help to create such conducive conditions.
- Collaborate with Sabre engineers and designers regarding custom attributes vs. what’s readily available from suppliers at a lower cost or quicker turnaround.
- Set up clearly understood and mutually agreed mechanisms to monitor quality control and failures, including on timely delivery, and to hold suppliers accountable for same.
- Set up payment authorization protocols for supplied components once criteria of the purchase contract have been met.
- Evaluate vendor managed inventory opportunities for commonly used components.
- Identify additional suppliers and alternate sources on an ongoing basis through constant outreach.
- Work closely with the VP-GM and other executives as appropriate to develop long-range plans, goals, and growth objectives.
- Build a high-performing procurement team.
- Take on special projects as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required if highly relevant experience has been obtained instead.
Experience:
- At least 5-7 years of procurement experience within the energy, data center or fiber network sectors
- 7-10 years of relevant purchasing background, with at least five of those years involving management of teams.
- Experience in engineer-to-order products required
Skills & Abilities:
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and people skills.
- Solid business acumen, including experience in strategic planning, understanding and preparing budgets, managing resources within such constraints, and reporting outcomes, especially versus plan.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a desk or attending meetings.
- Occasional travel to manufacturing sites, trade shows, or client meetings may be required, involving walking, climbing stairs, and navigating varied environments.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds for transporting marketing materials and equipment.
