OVERVIEW: The Custodian is responsible for the care of building & facilities of the Sacramento Children’s Home, including cleaning and non-cleaning tasks such as minor maintenance repairs.
DUTIES:
- Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming in accordance with daily task list or more often if needed to maintain cleanliness.
- Gather and empty trash and recycling bins.
- Service, clean and supply restrooms.
- Clean and polish furniture and fixtures in accordance with daily task list or more often if needed to maintain cleanliness.
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees in accordance with daily tasks list or more often if needed to maintain cleanliness
- Dust furniture, walls, machines, base boards, and equipment.
- Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
- Drive vehicles required to perform or travel to cleaning work, including vans, industrial trucks, or industrial vacuum cleaners.
- Follow manufacture instructions and cautions for the use of chemical cleaner and power equipment to ensure safety, ensure cleanliness, and prevent damage to equipment and or facilities and fixtures.
- Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to that hazards are not created.
- Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies either manually or by using hand trucks.
- Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
- Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables and chairs to prepare facilities for events such as meetings or other events.
- Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.
- Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
- Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Perform minor maintenance repairs, such as replacing light bulbs, hanging items on walls, unclogging drains, replacing filters in air purifiers, etc.
SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday 5:00pm – 1:30am
SALARY: $19.50 - $21.93 per hour, to start
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
One year of janitorial custodial experience is required.
Driving is an essential function of this job, and as such, employees in this position will be required to furnish their own vehicle to be used in the course of employment. A valid driver’s license and minimum insurance coverage is also required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
- Knowledge of general janitorial and custodial work.
- Knowledge of and ability to use and operate various tools, cleaning supplies, equipment, etc.
- Knowledge of safety procedures.
- Skill to plan and organize multiple tasks at one time.
- Skill to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain a safe working environment.
- Ability to report to work on a regular and reliable basis.
