Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the facilities & maintenance supervisor, the Maintenance/Facilities Technician is responsible for performing a variety of general labor tasks and light housekeeping duties to ensure the school facilities are well-maintained and operational. This role requires a proactive approach, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification in maintenance-related fields preferred.
- Proven experience in general maintenance, housekeeping, or related roles.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general repair skills.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 50 pounds unassisted: carry heavy objects, climb ladders, and perform physical tasks.
- Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work outside normal business hours, if necessary.
- Must be able to understand, read/ write in English to follow basic instructions, and take, direction from supervisors and clients.
- Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with Virtus/Safe Environment policy.
- Able to work all shifts and extended hours.
- Must reside on Oahu.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma
- 2 years’ experience performing general maintenance in a school setting.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, in multi-aged environments.
- Experience to demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills; strong organization skills; handling multiple tasks and projects, and good judgement.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to effectively train others.
- Demonstrated ability to protect and maintain confidential information.
- Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilizes excellent time and stress management skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:
1. General Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and minor repairs.
- Address and resolve maintenance issues promptly and efficiently.
- Assist with setting up and tearing down equipment for school events and activities.
2. Housekeeping:
- Ensure classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas are clean and orderly.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust as needed.
- Restock supplies in restrooms and common areas.
3. Groundskeeping:
- Maintain school grounds, including mowing lawns, trimming shrubs, and removing debris.
- Clear walkways of snow and ice during winter months.
4. Safety and Security:
- Conduct regular inspections to identify potential safety hazards.
- Follow all safety protocols and ensure compliance with school policies.
- Secure school premises by locking doors, windows, and setting alarms.
5. Performs other related duties as assigned (10%)
- Serves as community relations liaison for company.
- Actively participates as an effective member of the team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
- Assist with seasonal peaks.
