Postdoctoral Position

At the forefront of Extreme Electrochemistry, Sadoway Labs Foundation is a non-profit research institution founded to make fundamental discoveries and accelerate deployment of tough-tech for the electrification of manufacturing.

We are an idea-factory, a science lab and a team of pioneers developing technology to shape the future of industry and support the transition to an electrified economy. As a center of excellence for Extreme Electrochemistry, Sadoway Labs is home to both full-time dedicated researchers and the Sadoway Postdoctoral Program which trains the world’s future leading scientists.

Sadoway Labs is looking for recent PhD graduates to join its team of pioneers as “Postdocs” for 18-month appointments. It is expected that these individuals will work contribute on primary research identified by Sadoway Labs. They will publish research findings in high-impact peer reviewed journals and make presentations at scientific conferences. An appetite for approaching problems in non-traditional ways is expected!

Opportunities afforded through the Sadoway Labs postdoc experience go beyond the typical academic practice. The core mission of SLF is to exploit extreme electrochemistry to deliver solutions to tough problems. The societal impact will be felt by spinning technology out to industries seeking new electrified solutions to upgrade away from traditional processes.

Required Background: PhD in materials science, chemical engineering or chemistry, <3 years since receiving PhD.

Relevant skills and experience:

- Electrochemistry

- High temperature chemistry (>500 ^oC)

- Cryogenic chemistry

- Energy storage

- Extractive metallurgy

- Materials characterization: SEM, TGA, optical microscopy, ICP, etc.

- General laboratory practices

Bonus skills and experience:

- Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA)

- Thermodynamic modeling

You will be a member of a small team comprised of both experienced and new researchers and support staff. Interpersonal relationships and team collaboration is critical at Sadoway Labs. As we are working regularly in a laboratory environment we routinely wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and you should be prepared to do so as well.
