Organization Commitment:

Distinguishing Features:
Counsels’ individuals or groups regarding psychological or emotional problems such as abuse/trauma, anxiety/stress, anger management, substance abuse, family situations, etc. and develops and implements a therapeutic treatment plan.
Requirements:
· A valid NYS Driver’s license – a copy must be provided
· A copy of driving record
· A copy of car insurance which includes liability limits
· A current physical and an update to be submitted annually
· Background checks will be conducted
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
·Must meet with all new shelter clients to complete treatment plan within first 48 hours (Interviews clients to obtain information).
· Checks in daily with shelter clients.
· Performs CANS – NY and Psycho-social assessments.
· Performs Suicide Assessment PRN.
· Performs Rapid Indicator for trafficking, pinpointing red flags.
· Maintains regular contact with CPC.
· Increases community awareness regarding programs.
· Attends trainings and conferences as needed to keep abreast of new developments.
· Plans and administers therapeutic treatment such as behavior modification and stress management therapy.
· Refers client to supportive services to supplement treatment and counseling.
-May get referrals through Safe Inc.'s Street Outreach, Life Skills, or Anti-Trafficking Programs for counseling
-May require family counseling for reconciliation
· Transports clients as needed.
-Must be organized and good with time management
· Maintains all documents necessary for quality assurance review.
· Provides Executive Director with information on the status of new referrals and clients on a bi-weekly basis.
-No day is the same, must be able to be flexible to meet clients needs
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The Counselor should demonstrate the following:
Knowledge of basic principles, practices, and techniques of counseling required in a preventative, short term treatment facility
An understanding of the problems inherent in an at-risk youth population; the ability to learn and apply new clinical skills
Skill at establishing and maintaining effective relationships with clients
Skill at working in a group to problem solve
The ability to establish a positive working relationship with co-workers while providing supervision
Computer literacy and the ability to adapt to new technologies
The ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; skill working in group problem solving situations.
A strong aptitude for verbal and written communication.
A professional demeanor
Qualifications: Education and Experience Requirements:
· Minimum of a Master’s degree in social work or a related field (i.e. Psychology, Mental Health, etc.) with at least 2 years of experience in a Youth Service Program or a related field.
· Individual, family and group counseling experience required.
· Preference given to persons with experience working with homeless youth populations and to persons with supervisory experience.
