Job Overview
The Shelter Advocate plays a crucial role in providing support and assistance to individuals and families experiencing domestic violence/sexual assault or crisis situations. The Shelter Advocate will collaborate with community organizations and service providers to ensure clients receive comprehensive care and support.
Responsibilities
- Conduct intake assessments to evaluate client needs and develop individualized service plans.
- Provide crisis intervention and emotional support to clients in distress.
- Assist clients in navigating available resources, including housing, healthcare, and social services.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions, including data collection and data entry for case management purposes.
- Maintain shelter operations during shift.
- Communicate effectively with clients, staff, and external agencies to coordinate services and advocate for client needs.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance skills related to social work and case management.
- Uphold confidentiality standards while managing sensitive client information.
Experience
- A background in social work or a related field is preferred.
- Experience in case management or crisis intervention is highly desirable.
- Certification in relevant areas of social services may be beneficial.
- Strong communication skills are essential for effective client interaction and collaboration with community partners.
- Previous experience with data collection and entry is advantageous for maintaining accurate records.
