Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain storm drain infrastructure within the City of Pembroke Pines
- Clean storm drain system lines, DI’s, catch basins, manholes, and other related.
- Participate in the operation of line locating and video inspection equipment.
- Respond to various emergencies throughout the City’s infrastructure.
- Vac Con combination sewer / storm drain cleaner and other related equipment.
- Maintain storm drain collection system maps, cleaning and inspection records.
- Purchasing supplies, materials and equipment.
- Be able to read drainage plans and troubleshooting issues in different drainage systems.
- Adherent to company policies, safety protocols, environmental regulations, and DOT guidelines.
- Complete accurate service logs, paperwork, and reports, ensuring proper documentation of waste removal and disposal.
- Effectively communicate with supervisors, team members, and clients to ensure smooth job execution.
- May include setting up and tearing down job sites, connecting hoses and equipment, and assisting with minor equipment repairs.
- A strong understanding of traffic laws and safe driving practices, as well as the ability to operate heavy equipment safely.
- Understand and set up proper MOT.
- Familiarity with vacuum systems, water blasting equipment, and other specialized equipment used in waste removal and sewer cleaning.
- Ability to perform tasks that may involve standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
- Perform confined space entry in tanks, pits, manholes, drainage structures, trenches and other areas that may include climbing, standing and working in awkward positions.
- Clean out the vac truck and dispose of the waste on-site, or, if designated by your Crew Leader, at a pre-approved disposal site. Clean and maintain all equipment upon return to the shop; return equipment and supplies to their designated storage locations.
- Trained in the installation, operation, and repairs of mechanical devices such as pumps, valves, PTO’s etc.
- May troubleshoot equipment and make minor repairs if they have the knowledge to complete the task safely
- Performs manual work functions associated with construction, maintenance, and repair of city roads, drainage systems, water systems, sewer systems, building structures, and grounds.
- Clean gutters, drainage ditches, and rights-of-way.
- Interacts and communicates with contractors, city administrators and the general public. Required to obtain NIMS (National Incident Management System) training ICS 100, 200 & 700. In the event of a disaster or declared State of Emergency, be on 24-hour emergency call for public assistance.
- Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, typically 8 hours/day Monday through Friday, and to include 24-hour, 7-day emergency service.
- Assists in several special events, some of which take place on holidays.
- Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
- CDL Driver / Vac Truck Operator must have at least a class (B) Commercial Driver’s License, with tanker endorsement
- Must have at least 6 months’ experience operating Vactor Truck
- Must be mechanically inclined able to perform daily inspections of equipment and perform preventive maintenance task such as check fluids, tire pressure, visual inspections daily.
