Landscape Inspector – Weston, FL
Calvin Giordano & Associates, a SAFEbuilt company, is currently searching for a Landscape Inspector in Weston, FL. This is a technical position with extensive field work in the enforcement of landscape and tree preservation codes. An employee in this position reviews landscape plans and inspects construction sites to ensure adherence to the approved construction plans, conditions of approval placed by the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) or the City, time-certain conditions, and any applicable codes. This employee exercises some independence in making decisions in the field and office. This is an in-person position with no opportunity for remote work; regular attendance and punctuality are essential requirement of the job. The employee will engage with the public; therefore, respectful professionalism shall be observed at all times.
Duties
A Level 1 certification from the Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE) is preferred.

Duties
- Work includes inspecting field conditions to ensure adherence to the approved landscape plan specifications and code requirements, including but not limited to:
- Reviewing landscape and tree preservation plans in the field to ensure plan material quantity, quality, location, and size are consistent per plan(s);
- Evaluating plant suitability for its location(s);
- Evaluating planting practices for horticultural soundness;
- Evaluating the performance of irrigation system(s); and
- Drafting and preparing reports to communicate findings.
- Reviews and compares landscape and tree preservation plans with approved site plans on file for compliance with requirements.
- Conducts annual re-inspections of sites to ensure all landscaping trees, palms, hedges, shrubs, groundcovers, vines, and sod are alive and healthy.
- Ensures that the approved irrigation plans comply with the approved plans.
- Investigates complaints and violations concerning dead, damaged or missing landscape materials.
- Writes reports, letters, maintains landscape files, and coordinates landscape code violations with Code Enforcement.
- Answers questions from contractors, applicants and the public concerning landscape and tree preservation code requirements.
- Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
- Considerable knowledge of landscape materials and installation methods common to the landscape industry in South Florida.
- Knowledge of urban forestry and arboriculture; municipal tree codes; professional tree assessment standards; tree and tree root health assessment and evaluation; proper pruning techniques and tree removal criteria; knowledge of tree biology; tree hazards associated with storm damage response.
- Ability to read and interpret site and landscape plans, tree surveys, and tree preservation plans, and demonstrate ability to recognize deviations from such plans during the construction process.
- Ability to identify various plant species indigenous to the region and ecosystems commonly associated with them.
- Ability to perform active, outdoor field work in all-weather conditions.
- Ability to organize information, maintain records, schedule daily activities and work independently.
- Ability to effectively write reports, letters, communicate ideas, handle complaints and requests for information, both orally and in writing.
- Must have a valid Florida driver’s license and approved by the Corporate Insurance Carrier.
- Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification
- Must satisfy one of the following:
- Two (2) years of college level courses in Environmental Science, Biology, Botany, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, or related field
- Two (2) years of experience as a landscape contractor, nursery manager, forester, or related field; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience.
- Must satisfy all of the following or shall obtain within 6 months of hire as a condition for continued, permanent employment:
- Must possess an ISA Certified Arborist license,
- Must possess a Certification from the Landscaper Inspector Association,
- Must possess a FEMA NIMS 2 Certification of achievement
