SMG is seeking a Safety Advisor – Power & Utilities - in Shreveport, LA.
The key function of a Safety Advisor is to prioritize safety, prioritize the client’s needs, work well in a team setting, be self-managed, and be flexible when it comes to change. The Associate in this role will work in a utility construction environment.

Overview Of Job Responsibilities
- Attend Subcontractor’s Task Hazard Analysis (THA), providing input and training as needed
- Perform two (2) Job Site Observation (JSO) walks per day: one in the a.m. and one in the p.m.
- Record Action Items (for example, Good Catches and Near Misses), report them to General Contractor and follow up, recording the mitigation
- Daily Safety Reports
- Report BMP issues to General Contractor and follow up when mitigated
- Daily Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) Report
- Address safety concerns and perform training as needed - Weekly
- JSO site inspection and training
- Safety training for the whole crew (Safety Talk)
- Guardian Report Review
- JSO walks with SMG safety representative (two-to-three times per week)
- Update the SWPPP binder as needed
- On-boarding training for newcomers to the site
- Task Plan training for each new task when started
- A college degree in a safety-related field and Two years’ safety management-related experience or Five years of safety management experience
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
- OSHA 30 Hour
- Be able to work outdoors in all reasonable conditions
- Proficient in effective email correspondence, electronic document development, creating safety-related communications (bulletins, alerts, etc.), navigating new computer software and applications
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple competing priorities is critical to success
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative team setting
- Ability to lead meetings and initiatives to drive results
- Transmission & distribution, vegetation management, underground distribution & network
- Demonstrated knowledge of safety rules and regulations at all levels of government, including federal, state, and local
- Certifications including ASP, CSP, CHST, CUSP, STSC, CTSP
- Moving about long distances
- Ascending/Descending stairs and ladders
- Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period
- Working in extreme weather (hot and cold environments)
- Being exposed to loud noises
- Wearing personal protective gear correctly
