Sagaponack General Store Head Barista
Objective
The supervisor/head barista is part of the front of house team whose responsibility is to work together in order to serve our guests in a friendly and efficient manner. This is also a supervisor role that requires at least 2 years experience in high volume espresso service, speed, efficiency, cleanliness, flexibility, clear communication skills, time management, multi tasking ability, quick problem solving, and being able to remain calm under pressure. Supervisor or manager experience is preferred.
You ensure Sagaponack General Store high standards of pastry, bread, coffee/tea and retail presentation is maintained consistently and you help set the tone for our guests’ experience.
You strive to improve and maintain a warm, friendly, and positive environment and inclusive culture with both the retail and food production teams.

Responsibilities
- Train new hires on all things espresso and do check-ins to ensure everyone is comfortable making espresso drinks
- Advise on and develop menu and specials (creating recipes and Standard Operating Procedures when necessary)
- Track coffee inventory for all locations and order coffee beans twice weekly or as needed
- Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, and contact La Colombe for service if necessary
- Setting up your station every day by dialing in the espresso (and throughout the day as necessary)
- Make drinks correctly and efficiently by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques
- Keep the barista station clean and tidy at all times
- Breakdown and thoroughly clean the espresso machine at the end of each shift
- Welcome guests and be knowledgeable to answer questions about all menu items
- Educate guests on coffee and make recommendations based on their tastes
- Assist the service and sales team by packing up orders when necessary
- Other duties as assigned
Retail Operations
● Responsible for supervising store when a manager is not present
● Ensure timely and accurate accountability of all operations including safety, sanitation, shelf labels, inventory, merchandising, receiving, stocking, stacking position, order pulling, and in-store and customer service
● Uphold the service standards and the operational mission of the company, communicates it to the employees and monitors activities in order to meet company goals
● Liaise with the bakery management team regarding overall operations & needs
People
● Create a culture of hospitality, where a satisfied guest experience is the ultimate measure of success
● Forge strong business relationships with customers by maintaining courteous and kind communication, a culture of exceptional customer service, and by quickly and effectively resolving problems that may arise
● Directly assist shop customers and help fill orders alongside your shop team
● Assist in training staff, as needed
● Create and maintain a work environment free of all forms of harassment, enabling a safe workplace and retail space for employees and customers alike
● Communicate daily and clearly with Sagaponack General Store HQ staff, as well as departmental managers in absence of a manager
Supervisory Scope:
Directly supervise FOH employees when a manager is not present
Preferred Experience and Character:
- 2 years of experience in a high volume café, including training others (references preferred)
- Patience and ability to remain calm under pressure
- Cleanliness
- A fast learner who can easily shift from one job to the next with ease
- A person with excellent communication and hospitality skills who wants to strengthen their team, and build a better company
- Very good physical condition and endurance with the ability to lift 25 lbs and spend 8 hours standing
- Available to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to read, write, and understand English
- Ability to converse in, or understand Spanish a plus
