JOB SUMMARY: To direct (plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate) hospital-wide and community educational/training services.
Reports to: Chief Nursing Officer

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs needs assessments to determine the educational and training needs of services/disciplines every 2 years.
- Provides consultation to hospital departments regarding education/training as requested.
- Analyzes educational trends and requests for educational services and recommends long-range educational goals and objectives at least annually.
- Recommends priorities for education/training program development to management, as needs develop/change.
- Formulates policies, procedures, objectives, and practices pertaining to hospital-wide educational services as determined or deemed necessary.
- Provides hospital input in collaboration with community health programs and services as requested.
- Evaluates existing programs for effectiveness of results as determined by process evaluations.
- Assists the department managers in identifying unit specific education/training needs; provides the services with training resources needed to implement the programs in a timely manner.
- Works to secure appropriate program approval with C.E. agencies in a timely manner.
- Serves as coordinator for physician CME programs, teleconferences and MDTV program activities.
- Maintains professional affiliations as appropriate. Participates in professional activities annually to keep abreast of new courses and developments in the field. Participates on hospital committees as requested.
- Serves as trainer/ coordinator for special training programs offered to employees, patients, and community.
- Serves as trainer/coordinator for Hospital Orientation Program, and hospital - wide CPR program.
- Serves as trainer/coordinator for Learning Point on line training programs offered to employees to complete mandatory courses. Maintains the required records and statistics for this program.
- Develops programs; serves as trainer in specific programs as requested by the services and/or required by regulatory agency.
- Recruits hospital staff and outside trainers with specific expertise to conduct training sessions as requested.
- Prepares education data for accreditation and regulatory reviews as required. Maintains required records, reports, statistics, etc. for administrative purposes as specified per policy and as requested by management.
- Maintains annual cost data records pertaining to education and training programs.
- Maintains ongoing education/training records for in services coordinated by education department.

LEADERSHIP CAPABILITIES
Must have initiative in order to plan and implement educational activities, both short range and long range. Long range planning of activities is necessary to allow participates to arrange personal and professional schedules. The director is often confronted with various projects simultaneously and must possess good organization and delegation skills in order to maintain organized functioning of the Education Department. Must be able to work independently making immediate decisions regarding daily operations of the department. Prepares necessary information in regards to decisions required of the Library/CME Committee meetings. Actively participates in various hospital wide committees
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
- BSN required with sufficient (preferably 2 year’s) previous teaching/training experience in an educational or health care agency. MSN, MA/MS in education or human resource management preferred.
- A good working knowledge of hospital organization, policies and procedures.
- Instructional skills and knowledge of learning theory, educational techniques and methodology.
- Leadership skills an administrative ability and knowledge of educational techniques and functions.
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required to be obtained within 30 days of hire
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Suggested
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Suggested
