JOB SUMMARY
Saint Croix is looking for a Hand Stitcher/Mender to perform the detailed hand-finishing tasks to ensure the highest quality and durability of garments. This includes clipping threads, hand sewing collars, necklines, plackets, facings, and linings while maintaining a clean and seamless finish. The role requires a keen eye for detail and craftsmanship, contributing directly to the overall aesthetic and quality of the product. The ideal candidate will have strong hand-sewing skills, experience in hand-finishing, and a commitment to precision and excellence in every garment. If you enjoy sewing and working with your hands, we are willing to train the right candidate.
Work Schedule: Monday – Thursday 6:00 AM – 3:30 PM (36 hours per week)

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Hand Stitcher must be able to clip strings, pull in ends, catch chains, and tack a variety of styles and fabrics such as wool, cotton poly, facile Sherice and ultra-suede.
- Mend knitting material by replicating stitches by hand to create a visually appealing and undetectable fix in the knit fabric.
- Hand sewing closed collars, crewnecks, V-necks, plackets, stollings, in addition to attaching facings and linings to bands on jackets and heavier sweaters.
- Hand sews on buttons
- Use machines to create buttonholes and sew-on buttons
- Fold and shake sweaters to remove any extra strings.
- Must be able to hold tools such as nippers, hooks, and needles for sewing
- Must be able to thread a needle
- Quality focus: Identify flaws in the knit and mend them or communicate the problem to the appropriate people so corrective action can be taken to address the issue.
- Work as a team with all departments
- Keep work area clean and maintain a safe work environment
- Other duties/responsibilities as assigned, or apparent.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- 1-2 years of hand sewing or mending experience preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Regularly
- Required to sit for extended periods (8-10 hours)
- Good hand-eye coordination
- Good vision -thread needles, identify color matches, see stitches
- Must have good manual dexterity for holding fabric, needles, nippers
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks for long periods
Frequently
- Required to firmly pinch multiple layers of fabric
Occasionally
- Talk and hear to coordinate day-to-day
- Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
The noise level is usually medium to low, due to knitting machines running
