What are the responsibilities and job description for the JRA Life Guard position at Saint Edwards School?
Must hold an American Red Cross Lifeguard Professional Rescuer certification (or equivalent certification). Lifeguards are primarily responsible for the safety of any persons at the pool and waterfront. Lifeguards must provide positive leadership and role model for campers and staff.
Duties:
- Be resourceful and healthy member of staff by developing positive relationships with others
- Fully participate in staff training day, engaging thoughtful in your personal and professional growth as a lifeguard to build basic interpersonal skills for relationship development, conflict management, and effective communication
- Follow the camp daily schedule and be present for pool and waterfront activities
- Maintain constant surveillance of all people at the pool and on the waterfront
- Act immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency
- Work with the Aquatics Director and maintenance team to ensure the pool is functioning properly that the waterfront area is debris-free and safe to swim
- Work with Aquatics Director to understand and adhere to pool safety and usage rules and guidelines
- In the event of inclement weather, be flexible with and help create an alternative schedule of activities
- Communicate any equipment and supply needs with the Director
- Be familiar with and enforce all safety, emergency, and camp policies
- Communicate any family, camper, or staff behavioral problems to the Director
- Be willing to ask for help, feedback, and advice from peers or leadership team
Waterfront Team, high school or high school graduate
- Responsible for leading waterfront activity instruction in groups of all ages.
- Provides overall safety at the waterfront through supervision, instruction, and lifeguarding.
- Experience in boating, tubing, wake-boarding, paddle-boarding, kayaking, and other water activities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Age 16 years old
- Prior experience with children
- Holds current Lifeguard Professional Rescuer certification including First Aid and CPR
- Enthusiastic, approachable, dependable, and effectively works in team settings
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Be actively engaged with children throughout a day
- May work long hours for extended periods of time which may include sitting or standing
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
- Works in varied and extreme weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
