What are the responsibilities and job description for the Life Guard SES position at Saint Edwards School?
Must hold an American Red Cross Lifeguard Professional Rescuer certification (or equivalent certification). Lifeguards are primarily responsible for the safety of any persons at the pool and/or waterfront. Responsible for enforcing the policies and safety rules and guidelines set forth by the School.
Supervisory/Administrative Duties
- Safeguard students and other patrons/persons using the swimming pool, waterfront, or facilities.
- Rescue swimmers in distress and administer CPR and/or AED as required.
- Ability to respond to an emergency and contact/activate EMS (Emergency Action Plan).
- Work as a team with other lifeguards during all shifts.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled staff meetings and in-service training as required.
- Complete daily checklist of opening and closing tasks.
- Set up the pool for various activities such as rec swim, swim lessons, pool events, etc.
- Complete all incident/accident forms on the same day as the event.
- Ask all swimmers and staff to exit the pool and pool deck when there is inclement weather or if the lightning detection alarm is sounded.
- Maintain constant surveillance of all people at the pool and on the waterfront
- Act immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency
- Work with the Aquatics Director and maintenance team to ensure the pool is functioning properly that the waterfront area is debris-free and safe to swim
- Work with Aquatics Director to understand and adhere to pool safety and usage rules and guidelines
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong communication and cooperative skills
- Prior experience with children
- Holds current Lifeguard Professional Rescuer certification including First Aid and CPR
- Enthusiastic, approachable, dependable, and effectively works in team settings
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Be actively engaged with children throughout a day
- May work long hours for extended periods of time which may include sitting or standing
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
- Works in varied and extreme weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
