Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Music and Theater Arts Teacher to join the SGS community. This full-time position includes teaching vocal music and theatrical performance to Middle and Upper School students.
Essential Responsibilities
- Direct and accompany the High School Chamber Choir.
- Teach theatrical performance classes for Middle and Upper School students.
- Lead the 6th-grade general music curriculum.
- Plan and direct musical theater productions.
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate arts into school life.
- Provide musical direction for school performances and events.
- Oversee and maintain performance spaces and equipment.
- Assess and evaluate student progress.
- Participate in faculty meetings and professional development.
- Communicate regularly with parents about student progress.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Vocal Performance, or related field.
- 3-5 years of teaching experience in middle or high school settings.
- Strong piano proficiency for accompanying choral activities.
- Experience directing choral ensembles.
- Proven ability to engage effectively with adolescent students.
- Excellent classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in vocal pedagogy and music theory instruction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Music Education or related field.
- Experience in:
- Stage design and set construction.
- Theater lighting systems.
- Soundboard operation and audio engineering.
- Musical theater direction.
- Collaborative arts programming experience.
- Familiarity with educational technology in music education.
- Background in private school environments.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in music notation software.
- Experience with audio/video recording and editing.
- Knowledge of theatrical lighting and sound systems.
- Familiarity with piano/keyboard instruction.
