Primary Function of this Position
Our parish seeks to bring the fullness of the Gospel to its members and community, collaborating with the Holy Spirit, to foster faith in Jesus Christ. To that end, the Director of Evangelization and Discipleship is responsible for working with the pastor to oversee the Parish School of Religion (PSR) program to provide meaningful religious education for children within the parish, and to help articulate a vision for evangelization within the parish. The Director will develop and implement a curriculum in the PSR program that aligns with Catholic teaching, and will recruit and train volunteer catechists to help implement that curriculum. Additionally, the Coordinator will serve as the chief liaison with our parish’s relationship ministry partner, Communio, for resources and services for evangelization.
Major Responsibilities
Parish School of Religion
· Establish relationships and consistent communication channels with parish personnel, catechists, and parish school of religion families, keeping them updated and informed of program information.
· Coordinate the development of religious education guidelines and handbooks.
· Evaluate and requisite resources (textbooks, classroom materials, worship aids) which support curriculum goals and complement the religious education efforts of the parish.
· Organize and plan prayer and sacramental opportunities and events for PSR children and their families.
· Prepare the Parish School of Religion’s educational program schedule of in-person classes and activities.
· Recruit and orientate volunteer catechists.
· Maintain and record data for permanent records.
· Manage the yearly registration process.
· Work with the Archdiocese of Saint Louis to coordinate and oversee the Totus Tuus summer faith formation program at the parish.
Evangelization and Discipleship
· Work with the Communio Church Strategist to implement the program in St. Gerard Majella Parish
· Organize and ensure execution of regular internal mobile surveys of attendees at Sunday Masses.
· Develop a support team for organizing and executing Communio events to create a sustainable ministry.
· Lead the support team in mobilizing volunteers to execute outreach events (2-3 times per year), ongoing engagements (6-8 times per year), and growth journeys (2-3 tracks per year).
· Organize and host regular support team meetings to analyze, plan, and review ministries and events.
· Track and analyze data to ensure the support team is on track to achieve the desired outcomes, and recalibrate the strategy when necessary.
· Develop and manage internal promotion of ministry activities (work with parish staff to advertise in the parish bulletin, newsletter, social media, Mass announcements, signage, etc.).
· Host or co-host evangelization information or training events with parishioners or parish staff
· Assist the SGM Adult Faith Formation Team in finding speakers or topics related to evangelization and discipleship as needed
Qualifications
· Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church, with a strong understanding of Catholic theology and traditions.
· Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Education, or a related field (preferred).
· Minimum of three years of experience in religious education, catechesis, or a related ministry.
· Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively with parish staff, volunteers, and families.
· Proficiency in using digital tools and resources for communication and program management.
· Ability to lead and motivate others and delegate effectively
· Commitment to fostering a safe and nurturing environment for children and youth.
· Desire to share the faith with parishioners of all ages, especially the youth
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $37,500.00 - $49,000.00 per year
Expected hours: 30 per week
