GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION: To oversee the successful operation of St. John Preschool by committing to providing a Christ-centered, Biblically based program that prioritizes a high-quality education and foundation of faith for preschool students.

General Responsibilities: To actively seek God’s will in establishing policies and procedures that are in the best interest of 150 students and 30 staff members. To support and develop 30 staff members by leading them in best practices and providing opportunities for discipleship. It is the director’s responsibility to maintain the state childcare license by adhering to all state guidelines and law. The director provides clear and effective communication to staff members, families, the Division of Regulated Childcare, the Preschool / After School Board, and St. John UMC staff. The director oversees the financial operations of the preschool program.

Primary Responsibilities:

Establish preschool policies and procedures.

Continuously evaluate the effectiveness and quality of the preschool program; adjust policies as needed to benefit students, families, and staff.

Review state regulations and law for preschool programs and modify policies to ensure compliance.

Develop personnel standards and the staff agreement to reflect the goal of providing an education that is guided by our Christian faith.

Maintain a state childcare license in good standing.

Meet the qualifications to be the director of a childcare program in the state of Kentucky.

Conduct in-service training to educate staff on state regulations and program policies.

Document required procedures.

Including but not limited to emergency preparedness, safety drills, required postings, hours and rates, exposure to communicable disease, incident reporting.

Adhere to state guidelines and law.

Staff records: criminal records checks, TB tests, education verification, 15 hours annual training, CPR/First Aid training, annual performance evaluations and professional development

Student records: attendance records, immunization certificates, medical releases, administration of medication forms, parent handbook, registration forms

Facility records: insurance, transportation, floor plan

Ensure building is “clean and in good repair” per state regulations (all indoor and outdoor spaces)

Enroll and complete placement for 150 students.

Market preschool program.

Maintain up-to-date waiting list and fill spaces as they become available.

Execute annual registration process for preschool families.

Prayerfully and thoughtfully place students in classrooms to maximize student success.

Conduct tours for prospective families.

Recruit and hire competent, experienced, and qualified staff. Complete staff development.

Recruit and interview prospective staff.

Execute hiring process as outlined by St. John UMC policies and state regulations.

Plan and implement opportunities for in-person continuing education.

Evaluate staff performance.

Multi-tiered process including observation, self-reflection, goal setting/professional development plan.

Develop, distribute, and analyze results of parent surveys.

One-on-one meetings with each staff member to review all aspects of staff evaluation and develop strategies for meeting personal goals.

Provide encouragement and guidance to staff. Collaborate to develop solutions for children who need extra support.

Mediate disputes between staff or staff/parents.

Prioritize discipleship and opportunities for staff to grow in their faith. Empower staff members to use their unique gifts and talents to help each other grow in their faith.

Oversee curriculum and assessment tools.

Collaborate with team leaders and teachers regarding themes, curriculum, teaching methods.

Collaborate with team leaders and teachers in refining assessment tools including developmentally appropriate checklists and portfolio assessment.

Establish program schedule.

Prayerfully and thoughtfully establish a schedule that best meets the vision of the program, determines placement for students, workdays for staff, and a weekly schedule that allows all classes to participate in special areas.

Modify schedule to allow for special events throughout the year (i.e. pumpkin patch, Thanksgiving, multiple Christmas events, class parties, community helper days)

Establish extended day and early care schedule.

Maintain state guidelines for ratios and maximum group sizes.

Support children with varying needs to allow them to meet their full potential in a safe environment.

Assist children who are ill, injured, need guidance/support in decision making, or who need specialized attention.

Conduct monthly and quarterly emergency drills.

Communicate with families, preschool staff, and St. John UMC staff.

Families

Spend time in classrooms, develop rapport with students.

Conduct tours for prospective families.

Develop and review parent handbook at annual parent orientation.

Monthly newsletters – includes information on policies, curriculum, themes, events, opportunities at St. John UMC.

Meet with parents in groups and individually.

Communicate with parents about children who need extra support. Connect them with community resources and collaborate with them for student success.

Preschool Staff

Spend time in classrooms to observe, participate, and encourage teachers.

Weekly emails include devotional, reminders about upcoming events (i.e. safety drills, chapel services, holiday events), policies, and proper procedure.

All staff, team leader, and team meetings conducted monthly.

Support staff in their faith journey by taking an active interest in their lives and promoting discipleship.

St. John UMC Staff

Actively participate in weekly staff meetings.

Continuous open communication to work together to uphold the vision and values of St. John UMC.

Oversee preschool finances.

Develop annual budget based on fair tuition rates.

Oversee scholarship application process, scholarship committee meeting, and distributing scholarships.

Develop pay chart for competitive staff compensation.

Carefully manage all matters of finance; monitor collection of revenue and expenditure of funds in order to be a good steward of resources.

Purchase and stock all equipment, curriculum, and supplies.

Partner with St. John ministries financially (i.e. building usage); supply equipment and renovations that are mutually beneficial.

Complete bi-monthly payroll.

Collaborate with Preschool / After School Board

Set and communicate meeting times with board members.

Prepare agenda and all documents needed.

Collaborate with committee to make decisions regarding preschool rates, budget, policies, projects.

Develop and promote opportunities to partner with families.

Parent and student orientation

Meet the teacher and phase-in day, parent orientation

Bi-monthly chapel services

Preschool pumpkin patch – create schedule, purchase supplies, set up/tear down all activities.

Field trips – coordinate transportation, activities, follow all state regulations.

Thanksgiving celebrations – schedule times, develop activities and purchase supplies, coordinate with teachers and St. John staff for performances.

Classroom volunteer opportunities – guest reader, room parent program, staff appreciation, and many other volunteer opportunities.

Develop and promote opportunities to partner with St. John UMC.

Provide information for families not listing a church home to pastoral staff.

Communicate opportunities to participate in MomCo.

Coordinate pastoral staff speaking at chapel services.

Promote all services, programs, events offered at St. John through digital and paper methods.

Coordinate and execute Preschool / After School Sunday

Collaborate with music teacher on performance.

Collaborate with St. John UMC staff on participation in service and meal following service.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
