We operate the largest residential program for formerly homeless women and children in the Sacramento region providing services 24 hours/day, 365 days/year, offering shelter, meals, childcare, and comprehensive support services, including Behavioral Health Services, Hands-on Employment Training, Career Education, and Family Services.

Position Overview
TITLE Substance Use Disorder Counselor
SALARY $28-$33/ hour
CLASSIFICATION Full-Time, Non- Exempt
LOCATION On Site Only – Jackson Rd. Sacramento, CA
SCHEDULE Monday- Friday, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm (negotiable)
About the Position…
Under the direction of the Director of SUD Services, the SUD Counselor provides counseling and treatment to clients with addictive problems, performs discharge and referral summaries for clients and maintains client case files. The SUD Counselor works in cooperation with the Integrated Health Services case management team.
You’ll be responsible for…
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions.
- Complete intakes, assessments, and individualized treatment plans
- Appropriately deescalate disruptive or crisis situations
- Keep up to date documentation in client files.
- Participate in team meetings to address issues identified in treatment plans.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge in SUD counseling theory and techniques.
- Other duties may be assigned based on business needs
You must have...
- High School diploma, Associate or B.S. degree in related field preferred.
- Two years of experience counseling in substance use disorder.
- Hold a current CADCA, CADA-I, CADA II, or LAADC certificate.
- Knowledge and training in substance abuse and related health issues (i.e., HIV, Hepatitis C, etc.) and recovery protocols including the 12 step programs.
- Knowledge of the local treatment community and referrals; if in recovery, two years sobriety required.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
- Computer (PC) literate in general office functions such as word processing, email and database software.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook);
- Will need a current negative TB test before hire as well as annually.
- CPR and mandated reporter training will need to be completed once hired.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The physical requirements for performing the essential functions of this position require the employee to be able to:
- Standing/walking approximately 20% and sitting 80% of the time
- Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to hear and respond to simple and sometimes critical messages exchanged in noisy/high traffic areas.
