Saint Joseph High School, owned and operated by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, is a private, Catholic all-boys college preparatory school looking for a talented individual to take on the role of full-time School Counselor for the 2024-2025 school year.
Responsibilities and duties include:
- Serves as the Counselor for an assigned group of students in grades 9-12 and provides both personal and group counseling;
- Assists with the Standardized Testing Program including Test Prep, test administration, the analysis of results, and the evaluation the program;
- Assists with Career and College Prep Programs;
- Coordinates Saint Joseph High School requirements for graduation, college admission requirements, and NCAA eligibility requirements for assigned group;
- Coordinates verification of athletic eligibility for students in consultation with the leadership and members of the Student Assessment Team;
- Assists the tutoring coordinator with identifying students in need of tutoring and/or pairing students with peer tutors;
- Assists with initiatives for student retention in assigned group;
- Ensures accommodations are provided for students with special needs;
- Assists students in assigned group with schedule changes, schedule conflicts, and course placement;
- Assists with special initiatives such as parent and student workshops and information sessions;
- Provide crisis intervention services as needed.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with students, parents, staff and community groups and organizations.
- Knowledge of Naviance and Common App.
- Providing classwide instruction to students in areas related to mental health, scholastic habits and skills, college planning, and other school counseling-related fields.
- Additional responsibilities or duties as assigned by the Director of Guidance.
Qualifications:
- Valid New Jersey School Counseling Certification.
- Experience counseling high school students, preferred.
- Strong background with the college application process, preferred.
- Experience with PowerSchool, preferred.
- Ability to work independently.
- Required Criminal History/Background check.
- Completion of Protecting God’s Children training upon hire.
