SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
As a member of the Superintendent’s leadership team, the Assistant Superintendent proactively supports the Superintendent in fully implementing high-quality education for each student through culturally relevant pedagogy. They are unwaveringly committed to equitable actions and use data to adapt and sustain their efforts toward racial equity to plan, direct, and coordinate action to achieve the mission and strategic objectives. Directs the development and implementation of all Instruction and Learning functions; provides for the supervision and professional development of staff; develops and monitors budget; develops policies, procedures, and processes to evaluate programs and staff; ensures compliance with all relevant laws and rules, serves as Acting Superintendent in the absence of the Superintendent and performs other duties as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops and directs all instructional programs, policies, and procedures consistent with the School District’s mission, core values, policies, and state and federal law and rules, placing students at the center of their work. They actively engage with families and the community to create an inclusive and supportive educational environment.
- Supporting the Superintendent, as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, in coordinating action to achieve the mission.
- Collaborating on the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of curriculum to meet the Minnesota Academic Standards and the needs of students.
- Directing the development, implementation, and evaluation of projects, including policy decisions, school improvement, individual student progress monitoring, and evaluation of District and school interventions.
- Ensures improved student achievement by overseeing the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of curriculum, effective instruction, evaluation of programs and practices, and using data for continuous improvement; supervising and evaluating site and system leaders; and demonstrating leadership for racial equity.

- Accountable for the overall effectiveness of the teaching, learning, instructional programming, and leadership development throughout the district. Develops and leads positive leadership development and promotes accountability by supervising and evaluating the Director of Instruction and Learning, Director of Student Services, Principals, and Assistant Principals. Collaborates on the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of curriculum to meet the Minnesota Academic Standards and the needs of students.
- Ensures a safe and collaborative work and learning environment by adhering to the District core values, building and maintaining trust, and establishing effective relationships with colleagues, staff, students, and community members.
- Prepares and presents reports to the School Board, Superintendent, Parent/Community Advisory Committees, and others concerning the strengths, needs, and proposed changes within the teaching, learning, and leadership functions.
- Oversees the District-wide efforts related to student management/discipline and coordinates with the Director of Student Services and building Principals.
- Participates in legislation and rulemaking at the state and federal levels to ensure that the District has representation regarding the impact of proposed laws and rules on teaching and learning for each student.
- Participates with the Superintendent and District Administrator on Policy Development and revision recommendations to the Board of Education.
- Works collaboratively with private and public agencies to ensure appropriate community services, prevent duplication of efforts between agencies, and facilitate successful interventions for children and families.
- Collaborates with the Director of Business Services, Director of Human Resource Director, and Building Principals to determine appropriate staffing levels for each site based on student needs, available budget resources, and current laws or rules. As needed, presents recommendations to the Superintendent and to the School Board.
- Collaborates with Directors, Principals, and program supervisors in the selection and evaluation of assigned staff.
- Develops and monitors budgets; establishes and implements systems to monitor revenue sources and expenditures.
- Directs staff development efforts appropriate to the needs of all District leadership and instructional staff.
- Develops and maintains an effective communication system between Early Learning, Regular Education, Special Education staff, supervisory staff, regular education staff, building Principals, other agency staff, parents, and members of the community.
- Chairs or otherwise participate in appropriate District-wide committees to ensure collaboration in the implementation of District-wide goals regarding curriculum and instruction for all students and each student.
- Directs the policies and procedures related to the collection, retention, and dissemination of educational data and oversees the completion of all state and federal reports as required by the District, state, or federal government.
- Oversees the work and coordinates with the Director of Student Services to provide services to special education, 504, and District services to Non-Public Schools within District boundaries.
- Oversees the work and coordinates with the work of site implementation teams to provide services to multilingual learners and instructional staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
